Beschreibung: The Indian monsoon activity, coinciding with the Inter-Tropical Convective Zone (ITCZ), progresses from the southern Indian Ocean during the boreal summer and withdraws towards the south in winter. Islands situated to the south of India receive, therefore, the first and last showers of the monsoon; speleothems in such islands have not yet been explored for their potential to reconstruct past monsoon rainfall. Here, we present the first measurements of stable carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions (δ13C and δ18O) of a stalagmite collected from the Baratang Island of Andamans, along with new data on δ18O of modern monsoon precipitation (May to July 2010). The aim was to detect (i) whether these samples are amenable to dating using 14C, (ii) whether their oxygen isotopes indicate precipitation under isotopic equilibrium, and (iii) if (i) and (ii) above are true, can we reconstruct monsoon activity during the past few millennia? Our results indicate that while δ18O of speleothem does show evidence for precipitation under isotopic equilibrium; dating by 14C shows inversions due to varying contributions from dead carbon. The present work highlights the problems and prospects of speleothem paleomonsoon research in these islands.

Beschreibung: Oxygen isotopic variations in rainfall proxies such as tree rings and cave calcites from South and East Asia have been used to reconstruct past monsoon variability, mainly through the amount effect: the observed 18O depletion of rain with increasing amount, manifested as a negative correlation of the monthly amount of tropical rain with its δ18O, both measured at the same station. This relation exhibits a significant spatial variability, and at some sites (especially North-East and peninsular India), the rainfall proxies are not interpretable by this effect. We show here that relatively higher 18O-depletion in monsoon rain is not related necessarily to its amount, but rather, to large scale organized convection. Presenting δ18O analyses of ~654 samples of daily rain collected during summer 2012 across 9 stations in Kerala, southern India, we demonstrate that although the cross correlations between the amounts of rainfall in different stations is insignificant, the δ18O values of rain exhibit highly coherent variations (significant at P = 0.05). Significantly more 18O-depletion in the rain is caused by clouds only during events with a large spatial extent of clouds observable over in the south eastern Arabian Sea. Beschreibung: RNA and DNA expression vectors containing genes for chloramphenicol acetyltransferase, luciferase, and beta-galactosidase were separately injected into mouse skeletal muscle in vivo. Protein expression was readily detected in all cases, and no special delivery system was required for these effects. The extent of expression from both the RNA and DNA constructs was comparable to that obtained from fibroblasts transfected in vitro under optimal conditions. In situ cytochemical staining for beta-galactosidase activity was localized to muscle cells following injection of the beta-galactosidase DNA vector. After injection of the DNA luciferase expression vector, luciferase activity was present in the muscle for at least 2 months.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Wolff, J A -- Malone, R W -- Williams, P -- Chong, W -- Acsadi, G -- Jani, A -- Felgner, P L -- HD00669-05/HD/NICHD NIH HHS/ -- HD03352/HD/NICHD NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1990 Mar 23;247(4949 Pt 1):1465-8.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Department of Pediatrics, Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin, Madison 53706.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1690918" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Notizen: Local spin-density theory and the linear combination of Gaussian orbitals method are employed to compute the band structure and ferromagnetic moment of nonequilibrium phases of several transition metals. The calculations are used to investigate possible magnetic order in these nonequilibrium phases, which include bcc and fcc Mn in a wide range of lattice constant, and bcc Nb and fcc Rh in regions of expanded lattice constant. The ferromagnetic moment calculations reveal transitions from nonmagnetic to ferromagnetic states and/or transitions from low-spin to high-spin ferromagnetic states as the lattice constant increases. In the case of bcc Mn, fcc Mn, and bcc Nb, large ferromagnetic moments are found in the expanded lattice constant region.

Notizen: Conclusion The experimentally measured phonon dispersion relation for niobium is very complex. This complexity may be due to the incomplete electronicd shells which make an important contribution to very large cohesive energy, and its likely effect on the phonon frequencies. Also the anomalies in the dispersion curves may be due to the departure of the Fermi surface from sphericity. In the present study none of the above effects is included explicitly and so theory fails to achieve exact agreement with the experimental data. Finally, we would like to put a concluding remark that an appropriate microscopic treatment given tod electron could explain the phonon dispersion curves of transition metal like niobium.

Beschreibung: The study was done in Nutrition and Live Food Station was located in Bandar Anzali Ghaziyan. Juveniles weighted average 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 g were randomly selected in three water conditions with a salinity of 11 ppt (Caspian sea water), water 7 ppt and freshwater (with three replicates per group) were included. At intervals of 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 72, 168, 240 hours, blood samples were heparinized capillary tubes by caudal juveniles and ion concentrations Mg, Ca,Cl using the spectrophotometer and sodium and potassium ions with Flaym photometry (flame photometric), the osmotic pressure of blood plasma by osmometer and cortisol levels were measured by RIA method. To study the microstructure of gill and kidney tissue for each treatment , tissue samples by classical histological methods and stained with hematoxylin - eosin slides were prepared. The frequency and location of the enzyme Na^+, K^+ - ATPase and chloride cells with immunohistochemical localization was performed. Studies micrometric gill chloride cells and renal glomerular networks by software Image tool (version 2.0) was performed. Measurement of enzyme Na^+, K^+-ATPase, by Zaugg (1982) method was conducted. Data analyzed by one-way ANOVA (Oneway ANOVA) with Tukey's test was performed. Overall, the results of measuring ions and osmotic pressure on the tenth day of treatment, the osmotic potential juveniles 2.5, 5, 10, 20 gr in Caspian sea water and all groups except the 0.5 in water of 7 ppt confirmed. But in case of unfavorable conditions for the release in estuaries river and river, fish with weight 1 to 3 release directly to beach (where the salinity is 7 grams per liter) and fishes with weight from 10 to 20 gr to sea. Although suitable river conditions necessary condition for release of juveniles in riverine areas to adaptation juveniles occur gradually.
