Notes:
The surface properties of oxidized and sized (epoxy and epoxy-polyester) carbon fibres have been determined with inverse phase gas chromatography. Using a column developed in the laboratory we have shown that it is possible to use non-aggressive solvents (alkanes, alcohols, aromatic derivatives and water) for a highly detailed differentiation of sizing and of the treatments undergone by the fibre by the use of partition coefficient (K°) values (at a given temperature), excess enthalpy values of the mixture and excess entropy values. We propose a classification of fibres according to their degree of sizing and treatment.
