    Description: Objective : We previously reported that S-propargyl-cysteine (SPRC) exerts cardioprotective effects by elevating H 2 S levels via the CSE/H 2 S pathway. In this study, we investigated the cardioprotective effects and pharmacokinetic properties of a controlled release formulation of S-propargyl-cysteine (CR-SPRC) in an in vivo ratmodel of myocardial infarction (MI). Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to seven groups that were pre-treated with CR-SPRC daily for 7 days prior to ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery to induce MI. Cardiac function and infarct size were determined after MI, and we examined the activity of antioxidant enzymes, expression of anti-inflammation proteins, and hydrogen sulfide levels. Mixed-mode, reversed-phase and cation-exchange HPLC–MS/MS were used to compare the pharmacokinetic properties of CR-SPRC and SPRC. Results :CR-SPRC significantly reduced infarct size and CK and LDH leakage, and it preserved cardiac function during MI. CR-SPRC displayed antioxidant properties, preserving GSH, CAT and SOD levels while reducing MDA levels. Moreover, CR-SPRC significantly reduced the protein levels of inflammatory biomarkers (phospho-NF-κB p65/NF-κB p65, TNF-α) and increased cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE) and Iκ-Bα protein levels. CR-SPRC had better pharmacokinetic properties than SPRC, with a reduced concentration peak (C max ), prolonged time to reach peak concentration (T max ), prolonged mean residence time (MRT inf ) and increased AUC 0- t . Conclusions : CR-SPRC showed protective effects against MI via the CSE/H 2 S pathway and demonstrated better cardioprotective effects than SPRC by prolonging the release of endogenous H 2 S.

    Description: Nowadays, price-based demand response (PDR) programs with compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems have been rapidly developed in China for wind power generation propagation. Based on this development trend, an optimal scheduling model considering thermal power units (TUs), wind power plants, PDR mechanisms and CAES plants is studied in this paper. Considering the factors of uncertainties in PDR, wind power output and electricity demand, a fuzzy power system optimal scheduling model for minimizing the sum of TUs operation cost, CAES plants cost and wind curtailment penalty is proposed. According to the fuzzy scheduling theory, the fuzzy chance constrains are converted into their clear equivalent forms. The simulation study is implemented with using the data from the Huntorf CAES plant, which can verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the optimal scheduling model.     Description: In this study, the effects of Potamogeton crispus L on total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphate (TP) in a eutrophic water body were explored and a time-effect model was developed for nitrogen and phosphate uptake by P . crispus . The results revealed that i) TN and TP in eutrophic water showed a trend of first decline and then increase at different P . crispus biomass levels; ii) at the same nutrient level, the amount of TN and TP uptake by P . crispus increased with increasing biomass; and iii) at the same biomass conditions, the amount of TN and TP uptake by P . crispus was the highest at nutrient levels of 13.95-20.56 mg/L for TN and 0.037-0.263 mg/L for TP.     Description: As the needs for the dynamic study on the vehicle-pavement system and the simulated vibration table test, how to simulate the pavement roughness actually is important guarantee for whether calculation and test can reflect the actual situation or not. Using the power spectral density function, the simulation of pavement roughness can be realized by Fourier inverse transform. The main idea of this method was that the spectrum amplitude and random phase were obtained separately according to the power spectrum, and then the simulation of pavement roughness was obtained in the time domain through the Fourier inverse transform (IFFT). In the process, the sampling interval (Δl) was 0.1m, and the sampling points(N) was 4096, which satisfied the accuracy requirements. Using this method, the simulate results of pavement roughness (A~H grades) were obtain in the time domain.

    Description: EAST has been equipped with two high power lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) systems with operating frequencies of 2.45 GHz and 4.6 GHz. Comparative LHCD experiments with the two different frequencies were performed in the same conditions of plasma for the first time. It was found that current drive (CD) efficiency and plasma heating effect are much better for 4.6 GHz LH waves than for the one with 2.45 GHz. High confinement mode (H-mode) discharges with 4.6 GHz LHCD as the sole auxiliary heating source have been obtained in EAST and the confinement is higher with respect to that produced previously by 2.45 GHz. A combination of ray-tracing and Fokker-Planck calculations by using the C3PO/LUKE codes was performed in order to explain the different experimental observations between the two waves. In addition, the frequency spectral broadening of the two LH wave operating frequencies was surveyed by using a radio frequency probe.

    Description: One-dimensional (1D) nanotubes of Nd 0.1 Bi 0.9 FeO 3 (NBFO) with an inner diameter of ∼50 nm were synthesized via sol-gel based electrospinning without template assistant. The phases, morphologies, crystalline structures, and magnetic properties of these 1D nanostructures were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and SQUID, respectively. It was found that the calcination condition plays a crucial role in determining the morphologies and the magnetic properties. Interestingly, these 1D NBFO nanotubes exhibit wasp-waisted magnetic hysteresis with a lower coercivity and larger saturation magnetization, which were prevalent in natural rocks and artificial composite materials. The origin of these wasp-waisted hysteresis loops was discussed.

    Description: P-type Cu 2 O is a promising CMOS-compatible candidate to fabricate memristive devices for next-generation memory, logic and neuromorphic computing. In this letter, the microscopic switching and conducting mechanisms in TiW/Cu 2 O/Cu memristive devices have been thoroughly investigated. The bipolar resistive switching behaviors without an electro-forming process are ascribed to the formation and rupture of the conducting filaments composed of copper vacancies. In the low resistive state, the transport of electrons in the filaments follows Mott's variable range hopping theory. When the devices switch back to high resistive state, the coexistence of Schottky emission at the Cu/Cu 2 O interface and electron hopping between the residual filaments is found to dominate the conducting process. Our results will contribute to the further understanding and optimization of p-type memristive materials.

    Description: The ionosphere scale height is one of the most significant ionospheric parameters, which contains information about the ion and electron temperatures and dynamics in upper ionosphere. In this paper, an empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis method is applied to process all the ionospheric radio occultations of GPS/COSMIC (Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate) from the year 2007 to 2011 to reconstruct a global ionospheric scale height model. This monthly medium model has spatial resolution of 5° in geomagnetic latitude (-87.5° ~ 87.5°), and temporal resolution of 2 hours in local time. EOF analysis preserves the characteristics of scale height quite well in the geomagnetic latitudinal, anural, seasonal and diurnal variations. In comparison with COSMIC measurements of the year of 2012, the reconstructed model indicates a reasonable accuracy. In order to improve the topside model of International Reference Ionosphere (IRI), we attempted to adopt the scale height model in the Bent topside model by applying a scale factor q as an additional constraint. With the factor q functioning in the exponent profile of topside ionosphere, the IRI scale height should be forced equal to the precise COSMIC measurements. In this way, the IRI topside profile can be improved to get closer to the realistic density profiles. Internal quality check of this approach is carried out by comparing COSMIC realistic measurements and IRI with or without correction respectively. In general, the initial IRI model overestimates the topside electron density to some extent, and with the correction introduced by COSMIC scale height model, the deviation of vertical total electron content (VTEC) between them is reduced. Furthermore, independent validation with Global Ionospheric Maps (GIM) VTEC implies a reasonable improvement in the IRI VTEC with the topside model correction.

Alm Recent work has underscored the importance of the microbiome in human health, and has largely attributed differences in phenotype to differences in the species present among individuals. However, mobile genes can confer profoundly different phenotypes on different strains of the same species. Little is known about the function and distribution of mobile genes in the human microbiome, and in particular whether the gene pool is globally homogenous or constrained by human population structure. Here, we investigate this question by comparing the mobile genes found in the microbiomes of 81 metropolitan North Americans with those of 172 agrarian Fiji islanders using a combination of single-cell genomics and metagenomics. We find large differences in mobile gene content between the Fijian and North American microbiomes, with functional variation that mirrors known dietary differences such as the excess of plant-based starch degradation genes found in Fijian individuals. Notably, we also observed differences between the mobile gene pools of neighbouring Fijian villages, even though microbiome composition across villages is similar. Finally, we observe high rates of recombination leading to individual-specific mobile elements, suggesting that the abundance of some genes may reflect environmental selection rather than dispersal limitation. Together, these data support the hypothesis that human activities and behaviours provide selective pressures that shape mobile gene pools, and that acquisition of mobile genes is important for colonizing specific human populations.
