Description: Gracilaria gracilis farming was conducted in the Bizerte lagoon (North of Tunisia) at two depths (0.5 and 2.5 m) using various initial fragment weights (5, 20, and 40 g) in order to investigate the alga growth, agar yield, and quality. IR spectra of agar were performed in comparison to the commercial one. Moreover, the proximate biochemical composition of seaweeds was investigated. The results showed that the highest daily growth rate and agar yield were recorded at 0.5 m, using 5 g as initial fragment weight (5.98 ± 1.98% day−1, 14.87 ± 1.91% dw, respectively). Maximum gel strength was 356.67 ± 15.25 g cm−2 at 2.5 m using an initial weight of 20 g. Gelling and melting temperatures varied from 34.33 ± 0.57 to 35.50 ± 0.57 °C and from 77.00 ± 1.00 to 85.00 ± 0.50 °C, respectively. IR analysis revealed that some spectra were similar, while others were different. The highest dry matter (22.68 ± 1.77%) and ash content (35.25 ± 0.02% of dw) were recorded at 2.5 m, using initial weights of 20 and 5 g, respectively. The maximum carbohydrate and the crude protein contentswere obtained at 0.5m, using 5 g as initialweight (9.52 ± 0.36 and 5.83 ± 0.7% dw, respectively). The highest R-phycoerythrin content was recorded at 0.5m(0.050 ± 0.007 mg g−1 dw), while the maximum of total lipid content was recorded at 2.5 m with initial weight of 5 g (3.58 ± 0.63% dw). Our findings indicated that growth and biochemical composition of G. gracilis depend on the depth and initial fragment weights.

Description: Hydrogen and oxygen stable isotope analyses of precipitation sampled during Cyclone Mekunu. During Cyclone Mekunu rainfall samples were taken at three different stations in southern Oman. The results are expressed in per mil using the conventional delta-notation relative to Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (V-SMOW). More or less independent from the instrument, the 1s reproducibility is commonly better than ± 0.2 per mil (d18O) and ± 0.4 per mil (d2H).

Description: Seagrass meadows provide valuable socio-ecological ecosystem services, including a key role in climate change mitigation and adaption. Understanding the natural history of seagrass meadows across environmental gradients is crucial to decipher the role of seagrasses worldwide. This database comprises of data compiled from peer-previewed publications (1975-2020; based on a Web of Science search) containing 11 individual measures of seagrass meadow structure (e.g. percent cover), biomass (e.g. above-ground biomass) and productivity (e.g. shoot production). Each row of data also includes biological, spatial and temporally relevant information such as bioregion, latitude, longitude, sampling year and genera. This compiled database will facilitate a deeper understanding of spatial and temporal patterns in seagrass meadow structure, biomass and production characteristics globally.

Description: Cores retrieved in the Indian Ocean by R/V Marion Dufresne have been selected in conjunction with manganese nodules dredged in their vicinity. A sample was taken for each ore intis top part (0-2 cm). After being cleaned in a permangante solution eight granulometric fractions were separated (〉35, 35-20, 20-5, 5-2, 2-1, 1-0.5, 0.5-0.2 and 〈0.2 µm) using sieving followed by decantation and centrifugation. Rare earth elements (REE) composition was determined by neutron activation analysis.

Description: Manganese nodules dredged in the Indian Ocean by R/V Marion Dufresne have been selected in conjunction with cores taken in their vicinity. Most of these samples are spherical or botryoidal with a volcanics core. The rind around the cores were separated and dryied at 100°C during 48 hours before being crushed into a fine powder. Rare earth elements (REE) composition was determined by neutron activation analysis.

Description: Ocean acidification is becoming a potential threat to marine animals. The present study investigated the effect of seawater acidification on Artemia franciscana. A. franciscana cysts were allowed to hatch at different pH levels of pH 8.2 (control), 7.8, and 6.8. After 48 h incubation, the hatching percentage was significantly reduced in acidified seawater compared to that in control. Further, the hatched Artemia nauplii from each pH treatment were transferred to freshly acidified seawater for chronic study for 15 days. At the end of the experiment, survival, growth, and biochemical constituents were significantly decreased in Artemia at pH 7.8 and 6.8 compared to that in control, which indicates the adverse effects of acidified seawater on Artemia. The antioxidants, lipid peroxidation, and metabolic enzymes were significantly elevated in A. franciscana exposed to acidified seawater compared to that in control, which shows oxidative and metabolic stress on A. franciscana under acidified environment.
