Conclusions 1. In cast alloys Al-0.32% Tb and Al-0.35% Dy intermetallics of spherical shape with a diameter of 2 μm form. 2. On introducing into aluminum 0.32% Tb or 0.35% Dy the grain size in ingots decreases by a factor of two, and in cold rolled sheets by up to a factor of six; the temperature for the start of recrystallization increases by ∼50°C, and the ultimate breaking strength increases by 50%. 3. The effect of adding Tb and Dy on the structure and properties of aluminum in cast and wrought conditions is almost identical.
