Description: In order to define the subsoils of two different ancient Roman Houses, exactly Casa dei Vettii and Casa del Centenario, a microgravity survey was carried out. Firstly, Casa dei Vettii’s microgravity survey was carried out to analyse the causes that generated a sinkhole in this ancient house. Instead, Casa del Centenario’s survey was carried out to guide the archaeological excavation, to recognize the dimension and trend of cavities, rooms and walls and to understand if they have natural or anthropic origin. For this reason, this House became the first yard-workshop-school for different scientific branches (archaeology, geology, geophysics, etc.). The gravity maps of Bouguer for these two houses are qualitatively similar. It is due to regional and geological causes, precisely to the depth of Lattari Mountains’ carbonatic structure (from south to north) that hides the anomalies at lower depth.

Description: The comparison between so many studies groups will cause a quite long temperai development, but fmally it will allow to obtain a twofold goal: first to bring to light Pope Alexander IV tomb and then, more importantly from thè scientifìc point of view, put compared, in a single site, 9 geophysical different methods, non-invasive and non-destructive and 15 different instruments, therefore the data will be very important in various fields, historical, archaeological, geological and architecrural. The techniques compared in thè "research project of Pope Alexander IV tomb" will be: Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), IDEM - Method in Time Domain Electromagnetic (EM61 - Metal Detector High Resolution), EM31 (FDEM) Electromagnetic Method in thè frequency domain, Electrical Tomography (ERT), Microgravimetric Method, Sonic Tests, Survey Seismic Tomography, Magnetometric Methods. The first results are beginning to emerge and by analyzing the methodologies separately and comparing the results obtained with the different techniques.

Description: In the search for bodies of archaeological interest and buried man-made objects at shallow depths, geophysical methods can provide useful indications. In the present work, we sought to demonstrate the advantages of combining a number of geophysical methods when investigating an archaeological site of Insula del Centenario in Pompeii, which presented a number of environmental difficulties. The survey area is located in the northern part of Pompeii (Italy). This area belongs to a large pre-Roman site dating from the eighth century B.C., where a village have been discovered and partially studied by archaeologists. In this area we applied the following methods: microgravity and gpr surveys. We applied also filtering and crosscorrelating techniques .
