    Notes: Abstract A strategy of organic synthesis has been developed for a new class of inorganic compounds,viz., dinitramide and its metal, ammonium, and substituted ammonium salts. The basic concepts have been tested in model reactions of β-substituted derivatives ofN-alkyl-N-nitrotoluenesulfonamides with bases and have been confirmed by the decyanoethylation ofN,N-dmitro-β-aminopropionitrile taken as an example.

    Notes: Abstract IR and UV spectroscopic studies of dinitramide have shown that in the covalent state it exists as two forms. In one of these forms, the proton is bound to the central nitrogen atom (HN(NO2)2). In the other form, the proton is equally bound to the two oxygen atoms of both nitro groups.
