Summary We demonstrate that a hybridization of Frenkel and Wannier-Mott excitons in parallel neighbouring organic and semiconductor quantum wires may occur due to the resonance dipole-dipole interaction between the wires. The hybridization might be especially efficient for excitons with small wave vectors along the wires when the transition dipole moments of excitons are oriented perpendicular to the wires. The hybrid wire excitons may possess both a large radius and a relatively large oscillator strength which could be important in non-linear optics.
