Summary A mathematical model for bacterial growth, survival and death has been developed. This equation has been applied to a large set of data obtained withYersinia enterocolitica to produce a predictive model. Favorable comparisons were obtained between predictions from the model, primarily as estimates of the population size as affected by local conditions, and data from an experiment with an inoculated food.
