Statistical design and planning of experiments by the BOX-WILSON method is briefly reviewed. The automation of the associated calculations by means of an electronic computer is then described. The main elements in setting up the programming sequence are itemized and developed in some detail. A numerical example is given to illustrate evaluation by computer and the advantages obtainable, i.e., speed, reliability, and flexibility in the choice of experimental design. The greater ease of operation made possible by automation is expected to enhance the attractiveness and the scope of the BOX-WILSON method quite considerably.
