Stereochemistry of Planar-chiral Compounds, II1). - Preparation, Chiroptical Properties and Absolute Configurations of Some Derivatives of [10] ParacyclophaneStarting from optically active [10]paracyclophanecarboxylic acid [(-)-5], which is prepared by a novel synthetic route, several active derivatives of [10]paracyclophane (3) have been prepared (cf. table 1) and their CD-spectra recorded, mainly for a comparison with analogous derivatives of [2.2]paracyclophane. The absolute configuration of 5 (and its derivatives) is established as being (-)-(S) by kinetic resolution of its anhydride with (-)-α-phenethylamine as well as by the Horeau method: For this purpose (-)-5 is transformed via the phenol (-)-16 into the cyclohexanone derivative (+)-20, which is stereoselectively reduced to give the “cis“-carbinol (-)-21; in the latter compound the configuration of the centre of chirality is determined with phenylbutyric anhydride. The absolute configuration of a simple “ansa compound” is thereby known for the first time.
Notes:
