    Notes: Abstract The holographic grating technique of thermal-diffusion forced Rayleigh scattering (TDFRS) utilizes the Ludwig–Soret effect to induce a concentration modulation within a binary liquid. The signal generation is described in terms of a linear response formalism, and the memory function for the concentration mode g(t) and its Fourier transform, the diffusion susceptibility, are measured by means of pseudostochastic random binary sequences with flat power spectra in combination with fast Fourier transform and correlation techniques. For polydisperse polymer solutions the individual modes contribute proportional to their concentration to g(t), contrary to photon-correlation spectroscopy, where the correlation function is dominated by the high molar mass components. Other advantages of stochastic TDFRS are time-scale delocalization of dust spikes and frequency multiplexing. Measurements are reported on monodisperse and bimodal polystyrene in toluene.

    Description / Table of Contents: The protective value of the top layers formed in alkali-hydrogen fluorides on soft steelBy means of solubility and elastic corrosion tests, extended over lengthy testing periods, in mineral acids of different degrees of concentration, investigations were carried out on the protective value of the top layers formed on mild steel in different alkali-hydrogen-fluoride solutions (KF, HF, (NH4)F, HF, hydrogen fluoride mixture). Both methods yielded, by and large, identical results. They showed that the mean corrosion rate of soft steel pre-treated in alkali-hydrogen-fluoride solutions amounted to no more than about 10 to 15 per cent. of that of the unprotected metal so that the top layer can be said to have a protective value of 85 to 90 per cent.
    Notes: Untersucht wurde der Schutzwert von in verschiedenen Alkalihydrogenfluorid-Lösungen (KF, HF-, (NH4)F, HF-, Hydrogenfluorid-Gemisch) auf Weichstahl gebildeten Schutzschichten im Vergleich zu dem Verhalten von ungeschütztem Weichstahl durch Löslichkeits - und Federungs-Korrosionsversuche in Mineralsäuren unterschiedlicher Konzentration über längere Versuchszeiten. Beide Methoden ergaben weitgehend das gleiche Bild. Danach beträgt die mittlere Korrosions-geschwindigkeit von in Alkalihydrogen-fluorid-Lösungen vorbehandeltem Weichstahl nur etwa 10 bis 15% von dem des ungeschützten Materials, was einem Schutzwert der Deckschicht von 85 bis 90% gleichkommt.

The influence of the concentration of the solution upon the corrosion of soft steelThe influece of the concentration of alkali mono  -  and alkali hydrogen fluoride solutions upon the corrosion of soft steel has been investigated. In all solutions a corrosive attack is taking place. It depends on the concentration of the soultion. The corrosion velocity  -  concentration diagramm shows a characteristic tershold value which is followed by an approximation to a minimum. In KF- and KF·HF solutions corrosion resistant covers are formed finally while in (NH4)F HF solutions even at relatively high concentrations a corrosive attack was recorded.
    Notes: Untersucht wurde der Einfluß der Konzentration von Alkalimono- und Alkalihydrogenfluorid-Lösungen auf die Korrosion von Weichstahl. In allen Lösungen kommt es zu einem konzentrationsabhängigen Angriff. Die Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit-Konzentrationskurve weist einen charakteristischen Schwellenwert auf, nach dessen Überschreiten strebt die Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit- Konzentrationskurve einem Minimum zu. In KF- und in KF · HF-Lösungen kommt es schließlich zur Ausbildung korrosionsschützender Deckschichten, während in (NH4)F · HF-Lösungen selbst bei verhältnismäßig hohen Konzentrationen noch ein gewisser Angriff zu verzeichnen ist.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Use of Electric Extensometer Strips in the Testing of MaterialsAs the electric measurement of extension by means of extensometer strips, being a modern as well as convenient method, has proved and become well known to be successfully applicable to all branches of engineering for the investigation of special conditions of wear it was attempted to show the use of this method in solving special problems of material research. Numerous examples prove convincingly that the above described method can be applied profitably even to special problems of the static material testing. The realm of use of the well known little Hartmann und Braun (Frankfurt) extensometer bridge “Pontavi” has been enlarged by a lately developed supplementary apparatus for selective connection of several extensometer strips.
    Notes: Nachdem hinreichend bekannt und unter Beweis gestellt ist daß die „elektrische Dehnungsmessung“ mit Dehnungsmeßstreifen, die ein ebenso modernes wie elegantes Meßverfahren darstellt, auf allen Gebieten der Technik erfolgreich zur Klärung besonderer Beanspruchungsverhältnisse eingesetzt werden kann, wurde versucht, die Nutzanwendung diese Verfahrens bei der Lösung werkstoffkundlicher Sonderaufgaben aufzuzeigen. An zahlreichen Anwendungsbeispielen wird überzeugend gezeigt, daß das eingangs beschriebene Verfahren auch auf den Gebieten der statischen Werkstoffprüfung zur Lösung spezieller Aufgaben nutzbringend Anwendung finden kann. Der Anwendungsbereich der bekannten kleinen Dehnungsmeßbrücke Pontavi der Fa. Hartmann & Braun, Frankfurt wurde durch ein neu entwickeltes Zusatzgerät zum wahlweisen Anschluß mehrerer Dehnungsmeßstreifen in glücklicher Weise erweitert.
