    Description: As a part of a major ecological study of Hanna Wetland, Semirum Region, Isfahan Province, parasitic infestation of 3 native and one introduced fish species were investigated. A total of 120 fish specimens were collected by both cast net and a series of gillnets between fall and winter 2007, and spring and summer 2008. Some of the observed parasites are reported for the first time as new host records of: Trichodina perforata on gill and skin of Carassius auratus auratus and three species of leeches namely: Glossiphonia heteroclite, Thromyzon tessulatum and Hemiclepsis marginata on the skin and fin bases of Capoeta damascina. Moreover, 14 internal and external parasites including: one protozoan; Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and two myxosporeans; Myxobolus varicorhini, Myxobolus sp., three monogeneans; Dactylogyrus lenkoran, Dactylogyrus intermedius and Gyrodactylus sp., two immature digeneans; Diplostomum spathaceum, Tylodephys sp., two mature digeneans; Allocreadium isoporum and A. layman, one unknown cyst, one Acanthocephalan; Acanthocephalorhynchoides sp., one cestoda; Khawia armeniaca. The highest prevalence of Diplostomum spathaceum (100%) was observed in Aphanius isfahanensis and Alburnus sp. However, the lowest prevalence was related to A. layman in Capoeta damascina in winter (0%), and autumn and spring (11%). Leeches infections were only observed in Capoeta damascina and Alburnus sp. in winter and summer, respectively. The maximum average (±SD) infection intensity belonged to K. armeniaca in intestine of C. damascina in spring (12.50±3.40, range: 8-16). Among the parasites identified in the region, D. spathaceum showed the highest mean (±SD) abundance (41.67±11.79) in C. auratus auratus in spring. In general, a relatively high diversity of fish parasitic fauna exists in this water body which could jeopardize fish populations and the whole ecosystem if the ecological status of the Hanna Wetland is neglected.

    Description: This study was carried out to investigate occurrence of parasite in selected cyprinid fish species in Gandoman Lagoon, in the vicinity of Gandoman City, Chaharmahal & Bakhtyari Province. A total of 90 fish specimens including Cyprinus carpio, Carassius auratus gibelio, Capoeta aculeata , C.damascina, Chondrostoma regium and Alburnus alburnus from Gandoman were examined during spring and summer 2007. Ten species of parasites were found, including Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp. (Cilliophora), Myxobolus musayevi, Myxobolus sp. (Myxozoa), Dactylogyrus extensus, D.lenkorani (Monogenea), Diplostomum spathaceum, Tylodelphys clavata (Digenea). Argulus foliaceus and Lernea cyprinacea (Crustaceans). 77.7% of fishes were infected to parasites and 22.3 % did not show any infection. Chondrostoma regium and Alburnus alburnus are reported as new hosts for D. extensus.

    Description: Result obtained during ten years research work (1990-2000) on distribution of monogenean fauna Iranian fishes indicates that its composition of monogenean fauna of Iranian fishes depends on their habit and since Iran includes three different zoogeographical zones with highly endemic fish hosts, its monogenean parasites have specific composition. The Caspian fauna is characterized by relatively great diversity of monogenean species (eleven genera and at least forty-eight species). Presence of some species with sphymoid type of anchors is one of its speciation. The Iranian part of Mezopotomian (Tigris) fauna (six genera and at least twenty-six species) is characterized by distinct monogenean parasites, for instance, presence of Dogielius type of anchors and prevalence of Dactylogyrus spp. with morphilogical peculiarities not similar to Sarmatian fauna. The most of its specific character is the shape of dorsal and ventral bar in Dactylogyrus species found in the Tigris Zone. Endemism in the a forsaid zone is high therefore species of Dactylogyrus will be increased more. The oriental monogenean fauna of Iran (three genera and at least eleven species) shows special characteristics, amongthem, the presence of one connective dorsal bar only, presence of varicorhinoid type of bar and haptor would suggest that aforesaid zone of Iran has been influenced by the Indian fauna.

    Description: Two-hundred and sixty five green tiger shrimp juveniles (Penaeus semisulcatus) with the average weight of 7-12g were collected from Helleh farms in Bushehr province and transported to Iran Shrimp Research Center of Bushehr in October, 2009. The juveniles were acclimated for two weeks. The experiment was designed in three treatments (named 3, 4 and 5) and two controls (named 1 and 2) in triplicate with 15 shrimp in each repetition prepared of glass aquarium. All the treatments and repetitions were exposed to Vibrio harveyi (NCBI: GU974342.1). The concentrations of the treatments were 10^8,10^6 and 10^4 CFU ml^-1 in individual containers dedicated for each mentioned treatment (3, 4 and 5, respectively). The controls prepared with no any bacteria and fully filled with chlorinated and UV treated sea water were named 1 and 2 respectively. The hemolymph were withdrawn from abdominal segments of samples for measuring THC and TPC evaluation at designed hours (2, 6, 12, 24, 48, 96, 144, 192 and 240). The shrimp samples were also fixed in Davidson fixative for histopathological studies. The results showed that the difference of THC value between controls and group 3 during 12 till 96 hours of experiment was significant (P〈 0.05). The differences between groups 4 and control of THC value during 24 to 144 hours of experiment were also significant (P〈 0.05). There was no significant difference (P〉 0.05) between group 5 and control groups of THC. The data showed that differences of TPC value between control groups during 24 to 96 hours were significant (P〈 0.05), whereas the differences between controls with groups 4 and 5 during 48 to 144 hours and 192 hours, were significant (P〈 0.05) respectively. TPC and THC were observed with an increase in the concentration of bacteria and passing the time as inverse bell shape procedure. In histopathology, gills showed melanization and color changed to brown and black. The hepatopancreas cells revealed necrosis and vacuolization of B, E, R and F cells. The bolitas ball and bacterial colonization was observed in the intestine. Our results showed that Vibrio harveyi with 10^8 and 10^6 cell/ml decreased immunity factors such as THC and TPC. The histopathological changes increased with increasing the concentration of bacterial level. This finding can be used for assessing the health of shrimp culture and prevention of vibriosis.

    Description: In a parasitic survey of the native and introduced fishes in the Zayandeh-rud River, 5 Myxobolus spp. were found in the gills, fins and skin of examined fish specimens. They include M. varicorhini from fin and M. samgoricus from skin of Capoeta damascina, M. musajevi from gills of Capoeta capoeta gracilis, Myxobolus cristatus from Capoeta aculeata, and M. saidovi from Alburnus sp. Data on the location in the hosts comparing with previous records are provided. The epidemiological importance of Myxobolus spp. in Zayandeh-rud River is also presented. In the present paper the occurrence of five Myxobolus spp. all from endemic fishes from Zayandeh-rud River (a new locality) are recorded from two new hosts; Capoeta damascina, Capoeta aculeata. M. varicorhini and M. saidovi are recorded for the first time from Iranian freshwater fishes.

    Description: Fish parasites from Valasht Lake and Chalus River were studied in spring 2005 and summer 2006. Fish specimens were caught by hand net and transported to local laboratory alive. We found three protozoa species, Trichodina trutta and Ichthyophthirius multifiliis on Oncorhynchus mykiss; and Chilodonella hexastica on the skin of 0. mykiss and Leuciscus cephalus. We also separated metazoan parasites from the fish in the two sampling sites that included Gyrodactylus derjavini infecting skin and gill of O. mykiss, G. spl infecting Alburnoides bipunctatus, G. sp2 from Barbus capito and G. sp3 from Capoeta capoeta gracilis and Tetraonchus menonteron that infested the gills of Esox lucius. Other parasites which we found were Myxobolus saidovi from the gills of C. c. gracilis, Bothriocephalus gowkongensis from intestine of Barbus capito, Raphidascaris acus from intestine of E. lucius and finally Argulus foliaceus from skin of Chalcalburnus chalcoides. This is a first time report of a new host, B. capito for Bothriocephalus gowkongensis and a new locality Chalus River for Myxobolus saidovi parasites. Furthermore, with the exception of Tetraonchus menonteron which have been reported before, the rest of the parasites of the fishes from Valasht Lake are reported for the first time.

    Description: This study was conducted to identify intestinal helminthes parasites. The helminthes fauna is collected from body cavity and intestines of 108 specimens of Brachirus orientalis which were obtained from Abadan port (waterfront) and investigated during the years 2009-2010. Most of the 4 species of helminthes were found in the intestine and body cavity of the examined fishes. The helminthes found was composed of 2 digenetic Trematodes (Lepocreadioides zebrine, Allocreadium brachirusii) all adults, in the intestine. The general prevalence of Lepocreadioides zebrini and Allocreadium sp. was in the intestine, 58% and 73% respectively, nematode Hysterothylacium aduncum with a prevalence of 23% was the only cestod Protocephalus sp. with 16%, except Pterobothrium sp., which was reported previously. Most parasite species found in this study have been reported for the first time from Iran and Allocreadium sp. is introduced as a new species and described here.

    Description: Leuciscus persidis as Iranian endemic fish in Kaftar lake and its headwaters (Mesopotamian subregion, Kor-Neiriz basin and Shadkam river) has been infected with a species of Dactylogyrus sphyrna. Comparison of collected parasites with Euro-Asian subregion showed that the similarity of them is more than their differences, although a little difference between them was observed. In this paper also introduce of Dactylogyrus sphyrna parasite to the new host is discussed.

    Description: The Caspian frisian roach (Rutilus frisii kutum), economically a very important fish species in Iran, is propagated in fishponds, reared into the rivers in fingerling size and then harvested from the Caspian Sea in adult stage. We found six monogenean parasites on the Caspian frisian roach including five Dactylogyrus spp. on fingerlings cultured in fishponds and rivers and two Dactylogyrus spp. on wild adult specimens living in Caspian Sea. With the exception of D. frisii that proved to be the most common monogenean and found a good milieu for its development both in flowing rivers and in Caspian Sea, the other parasites occurred either in Caspian Sea (D. nybelini) or in freshwater (D. haplogonus, D. rarissimus, D. suecicus, D. turaliensis). The objectives of present research work are to clear the sources of infection of Caspian frisian roach fingerlings to monogenean parasites and to recommend approaches for the improvement of pond technology in order to diminish the intensity of parasites without having to use high amounts of organophosphate insecticide in ponds.

    Description: Thirty three Gyrodactylus spp. have been found on the gills and body surface of both wild and farmed freshwater fishes in Iran. Among them nine species have been identified up to the species level, which are new locality records. The identification of the others, mainly belong to endemic wild freshwater fishes, need further studies. Among the known species, Gyrodactylus derjavini (Mikhailov, 1975) has been found on the gills, caudal and anal fins of the Caspian salmon (Salmo trutta caspius) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). These species are very harmful to salmonid fingerling production industry of Iran. In warm water cultured fishes, G. sprostona, with widest host range, infects common carp (Cyprinus carpio), Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and big head carp (Aristichthys nobilis) in almost all fish farms of Iran. Other species, which will be discussed here from their economic importance and host specificity points of view, are G. cyprini, G. elegans, G. fossilis, G. kobayashii, G. prostae, G. shulmani and G. stankovici. Furthermore the pathogenecity of Gyrodactylus spp are discussed and new technology (DNA sequence) for precise identification of parasites is also recommended.
