Description / Table of Contents:
The formation of heterotypic mixed phases is transferred from that lattices with rutile structures to those with silicon dioxide structures. Besides SiO2, further host lattices are described in which two tetravalent silicon ions are each replaced by one suitable trivalent and pentavalent ion.Oxides of the pentavalent P, V, As and oxides and/or fluorides of elements with valencies lower than five, the cation radii of which (in case of a mean statistical cation radius from 0.29 to about 0,55 Å) lie between 0.23 and 0.98 Å, are incorporated as guest components into SiO2, AlPO4 and BPO4. The condition to be fulfilled is that the sum of the cations added to the sum of the anions added is in the ratio of about 1:2. Four incorporation equations for the various possibilities and the mean statistical cation radii calculated accordingly are given. The representation of the mixed phases and their X-ray examinations are described and the colours of various mixed phase pigments are characterised by their spectral reflectance curves.
Notes:
