    Notes: Summary p-Nitrophenol (PNP),m-nitrophenol (MNP), 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) and catechol were tested for their effects on algal population in a soil and on pure cultures of two algae isolated from soil. Both PNP and MNP, even at 0.5 kg ha−1 level were toxic to the soil algae; high doses effected increase in toxicity. Inhibition of algae was relatively more with PNP compared to the other two nitrophenols. Catechol treatment up to 1.0 kg ha−1 led to a significant initial enhancement of algae with a subsequent far less toxic effect. The toxicity of the phenolic compounds towardChlorella vulgaris, a green alga andNostoc linckia, a blue-green alga, decreased in the order: MNP≧PNP〉DNP〉Catechol. However, algicidal or algistatic effect of the test chemicals was fairly more againstC. vulgaris, suggesting that the eukaryotic alga is highly sensitive to such soil pollutants compared to the prokaryotic alga.

    Description / Table of Contents: Mittlere Schwingungsamplituden und Coriolis-Konstanten von S6 und S8Es werden die mittleren Schwingungsamplituden und Coriolis-Konstanten der Moleküle S6 und S8 ermittelt. Während die zu den S - S-Bindungen parallelen Amplituden in beiden Molekülen nahezu gleich sind, resultieren für die Senkrecht-Amplituden und die Amplituden nicht gebundener Atome in S8 höhere Werte. Dieser Unterschied wird auf eine verschiedene Ladungsverteilung in beiden Molekülen zurückgeführt.
    Notes: The generalised mean square amplitudes of vibration and the Coriolis coupling coefficients of the S6 and S8 molecules have been obtained. While the parallel mean square amplitude of the S1  -  S2 bond remains nearly the same in both the molecules, the perpendicular mean square amplitudes and the non-bonded mean square amplitudes are found to be considerably larger in S8. To a large extent, this may be due to the difference in the charge distribution between the two molecules.
