    Description / Table of Contents: I[NI4] · NH3, a New Derivate of Nitrogen TriiodideThe former unknown compound I[NI4] · NH3 can be prepared in a closed vessel in the presence of a trace of water from nitrogen triiodide NI3 · NH3. It crystallizes hexagonal in the space group P63mc with a = 842.5 pm, c = 876.5 pm and Z = 2 formula units. Three corners of a nearly regular tetrahedron (d(N-I) = 219.0, 223.6 pm) are connected by trigonal-pyramidal coordinated iodine atoms with d(I-I) = 308.8 pm to puckered layers stacked in the direction of the c-axis. The molecule NH3 fills the space between the iodine layers. It is coordinated to that iodine atom of the NI4-tetrahedron which is not involved in the iodine net. Some chemical properties of the compound are reported.
    Notes: Die bisher unbekannte Verbindung I[NI4] · NH3 kann im geschlossenen System aus Iodstickstoff NI3 · NH3 in Gegenwart von Spuren Wasser dargestellt werden. Sie kristallisiert hexagonal in der Raumgruppe P63mc mit a = 842,5 pm, c = 876,5 pm und Z = 2 Formeleinheiten. Drei Ecken eines wenig verzerrten Tetraeders NI4 (d(N-I) = 219,0, 223,6 pm) werden durch trigonal-pyramidal koordinierte Iodatome mit d(I-I) = 308,8 pm zu gewellten, längs der c-Achse gestapelten Schichten verbunden. Das geringfügig fehlgeordnete Ammoniak-Molekül füllt die Lücken zwischen diesen Schichten. Es ist an dasjenige Iodatom koordiniert, das nicht unmittelbar am Aufbau des Iodverbandes beteiligt ist. Es werden einige chemische Eigenschaften der neuen Verbindung mitgeteilt.

Preparation and Crystal Structures of [Cd(NH3)4I2 · I2] and [Cd(NH3)4(I · I2)2]Tetramminecadmiumtetraiodide [Cd(NH3)4I2 · I2] (I) crystallizes monoclinically in the space group C2/m with a = 1 192.1 pm, b = 938.1 pm, c = 660.1 pm, β = 109.96° and Z = 2 formula units.Tetramminecadmiumhexaiodide [Cd(NH3)4(I · I2)2] (II) crystallizes tetragonally in the space group I41/amd with a = 949.7 pm, c = 1 987.4 pm and Z = 4 formula units.In both compounds four coplanar nitrogen atoms and two axial iodide ions form the expected quasi-octahedral coordination around cadmium. These complexes 1, 6-[Cd(NH3)4I2] are linked by iodine molecules I2 to a infinite planar zigzag chain of units [Cd(NH3)4I4] containing coordinated tetraiodide ions I42- (I) and to a network of units [Cd(NH3)4(I · I2)2] containing rectilinear polyiodide chains (I- · I2)∞ (II). The latter run parallel in slightly puckered layers. These are stacked along [001] and connected by the units [Cd(NH3)4]2+. Along the stacking direction the orientation of the iodine chains is altering between [100] and [010].
    Notes: Tetrammin-cadmium-tetraiodid, [Cd(NH3)4I2 · I2], (I) kristallisiert monoklin in der Raumgruppe C2/m mit a = 1192,1 pm, b = 938,1 pm, c = 660,1 pm, β = 109,96° und Z = 2 Formeleinheiten.Tetrammin-cadmium-hexaiodid, Cd(NH3)4(I · i2)2, (II) kristallisiert tetragonal in der Raumgruppe I41/amd mit a = 949,7 pm, c = 1987,4 pm und Z = 4 Formeleinheiten.In binden Verbindungen ist das quasi-oktaedrisch koordinierte Cadmium-ion quadratisch planar von vier Ammoniak-Molekülen und axial von zwei Iodid-Ionen umgeben. Gleichzeitig werden die Komplexe 1, 6-[Cd(NH3)4I2] durch Iod-Moleküle I2 zu einer zick-zack-förmigen Kette (I) oder zu einem dreidimensionalen Netzwerk (II) verknüpft. In der iodärmeren Verbindung enthalten die Einheiten [Cd(NH3)4I2] koordinierte Tetraiodid-Ionen, während die iodreichere [Cd(NH3)4I6] aus Scharen paralleler, nahezu linearer und regulärer Polyiodid-Ketten (I- · I2)∞ aufgebaut wird. Die Orientierung dieser Ketten wechselt in den durch die Gruppen [Cd(NH3)4]2+ verbundenen, nach [001] aufeinander folgenden, schwach gewellten Schichten zwizchen [100] und [010].
