    Notes: Using a synthetic peptide mimicking the NH2-terminus of β-actin we have raised a monoclonal antibody specific for this cytoplasmic actin isoform. Specificity of the antibody was demonstrated by its labelling of the actin polypeptide only in tissues containing the β isoform, by its exclusive recognition of the synthetic β-actin peptide amongst those mimicking all six vertebrate isoactins, and by its selective recognition of the β-actin spot in two-dimensional electrophoresis gels of smooth muscle extracts. The antibody bound to actin filaments in both living and fixed fibroblasts where it labelled the stress fiber bundles and, more predominantly, the peripheral actin rich lamellipodia. The characteristics of the antibody indicate that it should serve as a useful tool for studying isoactin distribution and function. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Dihydrogenphosphate Solutions Reinvestigated by means of Laser-Raman Spectroscopy and Mathematical Separation of the Infrared BandsAqueous solutions of NaH2PO4 are reinvestigated by mathematical separation of the infrared bands between 700 and 1500 cm-1 and by laser Raman spectroscopy. A single ion will not produce the spectra observed. It is possible to account for them assuming association of the anions into chains, which have a line group symmetry isomorphous with C2h.
    Notes: Wäßrige Lösungen von NaH2PO4 werden erneut untersucht mittels mathematischer Separierung der Infrarotbanden im Bereich von 700 bis 1 500 cm-1 und mittels Laser-Ramanspektroskopie. Ein einzelnes Ion kann nicht Träger der beobachteten Spektren sein. Diese lassen sich deuten durch die Annahme einer Assoziation der Anionen zu Ketten mit der Symmetrie einer Liniengruppe isomorph C2h.

    Description / Table of Contents: Infrared spectra of tertiary, secondary, and primary phosphates of Na, K, (and NH4+) in aqueous solution were taken and former Raman work was partially repeated. By special investigation of temperature and concentration effects, certain peculiarities caused by association were studied. Abstracting from these, at least the valency vibrations may be assigned assuming selection rules for free molecules.
    Notes: Die Infrarotspektren von Lösungen der tertiären, sekundären und primären Na-, K- und z. T. NH4-Phosphate wurden aufgenommen sowie ältere ramanspektroskopische Untersuchungen z. T. wiederholt. Durch besonderes Studium von Konzentration- und Temperatureffekten sind gewisse Einzelheiten der Spektren auf Assoziationserscheinungen zurückzuführen. Wenn man von diesen absieht, können zumindest die Valenzschwingungen unter Annahme der Auswahlregeln für freie Molekeln zugeordnet werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and the EPR were investigated on 12 element dipyridyls. The magnetism of the main group compounds and of ScDipy3 depends strongly on the temperature, owing to spin interaction of radical anions. The temperature dependence is less marked in other transition metal compounds. It is attempted to explain the dependence by means of the LCAO-MO theory.
    Notes: Es wurde die Temperaturabhängigkeit der magnetischen Suszeptibilität und die paramagnetische Elektronenresonanz von 12 Elementdipyridylen untersucht.Bei den Hauptgruppenverbindungen und ScDipy3 ist der Magnetismus infolge Spinwechselwirkung von Radikalanionen stark temperaturabhängig. In den übrigen Übergangsmetallverbindungen ist die Temperaturabhängigkeit weniger ausgeprägt. Es wird versucht, sie auf Grund qualitativer Betrachtungen nach der LCAO-MO-Theorie zu erklären.

    Notes: Durch Reduktion in alkoholischer oder wäßriger Lösung mit Metallpulvern wie Magnesium oder Zink konnte aus dem Tris-2,2′-dipyridyl-vanadin(II)-jodid [VDipy3](J21) der „Elementkomplex“ Tris-2,2′-dipyridyl-vanadin(0) [VDipy3] erhalten werden, der das Analogon des bisher noch nicht bekannten Vanadinhexacorbonyls mit Vanadin-Stickstoffbindung darstellt. Seine partielle Oxydation führte zum Komplexkation [VDipy3]+, das als Jodid isoliert wurde; Reduktion mit Lithiumalanat lieferte andererseits das mit dem Ferroin-Typ [FeDipy3]++ isoelektronische Komplexanion [VDipy3]- in Form des Lithiumsalzes(2). Damit ist zum erstenmal die stufenweise, lückenlose Ent- und Umladung ein und desselben Komplextyps gelungen; gleichzeitig ist die Eignung des Dipyridyls als Ligand zur Stabilisierung der Oxydationsstufe Null bzw. negativer Oxydationszahlen nachgewiesen worden. Hierfür wird abschließend eine theoretische Begründung gegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Investigations of the thermal dehydration of Ca(BO2)2 · 6 H2O and of Ca(BO2)2 · 2 H2O prepared from the hexahydrate at 105° C have led to a new formulation of both salts: Ca(H2BO3)2 · 4 H2O and Ca(H2BO3)2, respectively. Another calcium monoborate, CaHBO3, has been prepared by partial hydrolysis of CaNaBO3 at hydrothermal conditions and by evaporation of an aqueous solution of Ca(OH)2 and H3BO3 at a pH of 12. All water of constitution of CaHBO3 is removed above 200° C, the residue being Ca2B2O5. Ca3(BO3)2 has been synthesized hydrothermally at 365° C from CaO and H3BO3.
    Notes: Ca(BO2)2 · 6 H2O geht bei 105° unter Verlust von 4 Mol H2O in ein zunächst amorphes Dihydrat über, das kristallisiert erhalten werden kann.Das im Dihydrat enthaltene Wasser wird erst oberhalb 180° abgegeben und ist als Konstitutionswasser zu betrachten, wodurch die Formulierung des Ca(BO2)2 · 2 H2O als primäres Calciummonoborat, Ca(H2BO3)2, und die des Hexahydrates als Ca(H2BO3)2 · 4 H2O gerechtfertigt wird. Das sekundäre Calciummonoborat, CaHBO3, ist unter anderem durch partielle Hydrolyse von CaNaBO3 unter hydrothermalen Bedingungen sowie durch Eindampfen einer wäßrigen Lösung von Ca(OH)2 und H3BO3 bei pH 12 zugänglich. Beim Erhitzen verliert es oberhalb 200° das Wasser unter Bildung von Ca2B2O5. Ca3(BO3)2 entsteht aus CaO und H3BO3 unter der Einwirkung gesättigten Wasserdampfes von 365°.
