Description: Long-term column ozone density measurements have been carried out in Norway and USSR. Data from Tromso and two meridional chains in USSR are analyzed, and most of the stations show that no significant decreasing trend in ozone has occurred during the last two decades.

Description: The analysis of the large-scale structure of turbulence in a stratified atmosphere is important for the prediction and modelling of turbulence. The Monin-Obukhov similarity consideration is well suited for the modelling of small-scale turbulence. But the large-scale turbulence possesses new features and parameters, as connected with the appearance of a spectral gap in the stably stratified atmosphere, for the understanding of which an analytical investigation is needed. By a group-kinetic method, the anisotropic form of the transfer function and its governing eddy viscosity are derived. On this basis, the spectral laws k to the -5/3rd, k to the -1st, k to the -3rd are obtained for the subranges of inertia, shear, and buoyancy, respectively. A gap connects the last two subranges by the variable anisotropy, as a result of the fall of the spectrum of the vertical velocity fluctuations. The variable anisotropy causes the deviations from the spectral laws k to the -1st and k to the -3rd. An experiment supports the analytical prediction.

Description: Leveling measurements conducted in 1980-1981 by the National Geodetic Survey in the Socorro area of the Rio Grande rift are analyzed. Crustal uplift related to magma inflation in the midcrustal magma body is detected; an uplift of 0.18 cm/yr is measured for the time between 1951-1980. The survey data of 1911 and 1959 are compared to the present data and good correlation is observed. The systematic leveling errors including height-dependence and refraction errors are studied. The 30-km-wide subsidence in the area is examined. The spatial correlation between seismic activity, the Socorro magma body, and crustal deformation in Socorro is investigated. The crustal movement from magma reservior activities is modeled using the formulations of Dieterich and Decker (1975). The modeling of the deformation reveals that the movement in the Socorro area is associated with the 19-km deep Socorro magma body.
