Description:
Using a local recurrence time method for earthquakes along the Hayward
fault, Wyss maps locked and unlocked patches, and compares them with the results of
models from surface creep and geodetic measurements. The author reports that, in
general, the observational and model data for the central and southern segments of the
fault are in good agreement. However, there are indications from short local recurrence
times in the northern segment of an asperity in this region that could result in a M6.5
event.
