Summary This paper describes the measurement of the deuterium isotope effect on the response of an electron capture detector (ECD) to CH3I, CHCl3, C6H5Br and C6H5NO2. The effect of15N substitution was also investigated for nitrobenzene. Measurements were taken at two different ECD temperatures. For both CH3I and C6H5Br, there is a decrease of about 30 % in the ECD response upon deuterium substitution. For chloroform, there is a 15 % increase and for nitrobenzene there is no effect below 500 K.
