    Description: A 40 centimeter diameter aperture, balloon-borne telescope and ultraviolet spectrometer is described and selected scientific results are briefly reviewed. The general configuration of the 0.4 angstrom resolution instrument is shown and the utilization of servo-controlled secondary mirror, image dissector detector, and special mirror coatings are discussed. An outlook for astronomical research in the mid-ultraviolet from balloon-borne telescopes is presented together with future development plans for JSC's balloon-borne payload.

    Description: The design and operation of an imaging Michelson interferometer-spectrometer used for near-infrared (0.8 micron to 2.5 microns) spectral imaging are reported. The system employs a rapid scan interferometer modified for stable low resolution (250/cm) performance and a 42 element PbS linear detector array. A microcomputer system is described which provides data acquisition, coadding, and Fourier transformation for near real-time presentation of the spectra of all 42 scene elements. The electronic and mechanical designs are discussed and telescope performance data presented.

    Description: Description of the design and operation of a balloon-borne telescope-spectrometer system, intended to perform spectrophotometric measurements of the Mg II doublet at 2795 A and 2802 A in stars of visual magnitude 5 or brighter, with a spectral resolution of 0.5 A. It is shown that the system permits considerable flexibility in programming which, in turn, affords great versatility in observational planning and makes the system suitable for detailed studies of specific objects, as well as for survey work.
