    Description: Circuit synchronizes flash of light from stroboscope with frame and field periods of video camera. Sync stripper sends vertical-synchronization signal to delay generator, which generates trigger signal. Flashlamp power supply accepts delayed trigger signal and sends pulse of power to flash lamp. Designed for use in making short-exposure images that "freeze" flow in wind tunnel. Also used for making longer-exposure images obtained by use of continuous intense illumination.

    Description: Sliding radio-frequency short circuits easily adjusted for optimum impedance. Tuning elements developed for use in planar integrated circuits operating at frequencies from about 10 to more than 1,000 GHz. Purpose of such adjustment to adjust impedance presented to circuit connected to nonshorted end of transmission line and thereby optimizes performance of circuit. Mixers, oscillators, amplifiers, couplers, and phase shifters among circuits improved by incorporating tuners of this type.

    Description: Simple light-meter circuit used to position knife edge of schlieren optical system to block exactly half light. Enables operator to check quickly position of knife edge between tunnel runs to ascertain whether or not in alignment. Permanent measuring system made part of each schlieren system. If placed in unused area of image plane, or in monitoring beam from mirror knife edge, provides real-time assessment of alignment of schlieren system.

    Electronic Rotator For Sheet Of Laser Light (1989)

    Description: Primary flow-visualization system in Basic Aerodynamic Research Tunnel (BART) at NASA Langley Research Center is sheet of laser light generated by 5-W argon-ion laser and two-axis mirror galvanometer scanner. Generates single and multiple sheets of light, which remain stationary or driven to sweep out volume. Sine/cosine potentiometer used to orient two galvanometer/mirror devices simultaneously and yields desired result at reasonable cost and incorporated into prototype in 1 day.
