Abstract The elements which are necessary for a co-ordinated system of quality control of intravenous additive services are reviewed. It is argued that, with the use of advanced equipment, such a system can be established, even for this type of very divergent preparations. Major emphasis is placed upon in-process control, where the use of computerized systems creates the opportunity for an integrated quality control system.
