Notes: Using Brownian dynamics, equilibrium and dynamic properties are calculated for colloidal suspensions that are stabilized throug the Milner, Witten and Cates (1988) steric potential. Results are reported for osmotic pressure, radial distribution functions, static structure factors, and self-diffusion coefficients. The sterically-stabilized systems are also approximated by equivalent hard spheres, with good agreement for osmotic pressure and long-range structure. The suitability of the potential to model the behavior of a real system is explored by comparing static structure factors calculated from Brownian dynamics simulations to those measured using SANS (Markovic et al., 1986). Finally, the effects of Hamaker and hydrodynamic forces on calculated properties are investigated.

Description / Table of Contents: NI-O-NEL 825 -A new corrosion -resistant alloy for the chemical industryThe application of the austenitic special steels available is subjected to limitations 1under oxidising and acid-reducing conditions,2In respect of fissuration through stress corrosion in chloride solutions, and3in respect of pitting corrosion in chloride solutions. It was to eliminate these shortcomings that NI-O-NEL 825 has been developed. The development work resulting in the finally adopted composition of the alloy is described. Apart from an improvement in the above-mentioned inadequate properties of the special steels, the the composition finally adopted yielded an alloy which, after welding, shows neither brittleness phenomena nor grain boundary corrosion. The mechanical properties of the alloy, its corrosion resistence and practical applications in industry are discussed.Special attention is paid to the corrosion resistence of the alloy to sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid, sodium chloride, sea water, ammonium sulphate and various organic acids.
