    Notizen: Uniform polystyrene particles in 1-10 μm size range and up to 40% solid contents have been prepared by polymerizing styrene in ethyl alcohol with azo-type initiators and a polymeric stabilizer polyvinylpyrrolidone along with an anionic, nonionic, or comonomeric co-stabilizer. Effects of polymerization parameters, such as monomer concentration, type of co-stabilizer, initiator type and concentration, crosslinking monomer, and diluent on average particle size and size distribution have been studied. Functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, amine, amide, silane, polydimethylsiloxane, and silacrown have been successfully incorporated onto the particles by copolymerization. A mechanism for particle formation and growth in dispersion polymerization is presented.

    Notizen: The newly isolated Lycopodium alkaloids huperzinine, N,N-dimethylhuperzine A and N-methylhuperzine B were studied by high-resolution and tandem mass Spectrometry. Differentiation of these subtly different isomers from each other and from the general class of Lycopodium alkaloids can be achieved by taking advantage of the structure-specific fragment ions formed upon electron ionization (El) or collisional activation of these alkaloids. β-Obscurine was identified as an impurity component in the N-methylhuperzine B sample and contributed to the El mass spectrum. The previously published El mass spectrum of N-methylhuperzine B is likely to be that of a mixture of N-methylhuperzine B and β-obscurine. The presence of the impurity can now be readily recognized on the basis of two characteristic fragment ions of m/z 215 and 187.

Er verbessert das Korrosionsverhalten von Kupfer, und die Haftung von Epoxidharz oder Polyimid auf Kupfer, auch bei höheren Temperaturen, ist besser als bei Verwendung der einzelnen Komponenten.
    Notizen: A two-component coupling agent layer on copper, produced by immersion of copper in poly(4-vinylimidazole) solution and then in cystamine solution, showed better anticorrosive performance and higher adhesive strength for epoxy resin and polyimide than each single component even at high temperature.

    Notizen: A thermodynamic model has been proposed for the simulation of monomer partitioning behavior in the dispersion polymerization of styrene in ethanol. The monomer concentration in the polymer particles is very low (20 vol% at 5% conversion) and decreases further as the polymerization proceeds. It is independent of stabilizer concentration but is strongly dependent on initial monomer concentration. The partitio n coefficient ([Mp]/[Mc]) of styrene increases from 0.8 to 1.1 with incresing conversion. There are two polymerization loci in dispersion polymerization, namely the continuous and polymer phases. Competition between solution and heterogeneous polymerization has been observed in this system. The rate of dispersion polymerization is dependent on initial monomer concentration but is independent of initiator concentration at higher conversions. The molecular weight of the polymers produced by this process increases with increasing conversion and decreases with increasing initiator concentration.

    Notizen: XPS was employed to detect the surface species deposited on an activated platinum electrode following cathodic polarization in deaerated 0.1 M (NH4)6Mo7O24 · 4H2O solution. At - 160 mV (saturated calomel electrode, SCE), evidence was found of the possible dissociation of polymolybdate to molybdate with subsequent surface adsorption. At -340 mV (SCE) molybdate was observed to reduce to Mo5+ in the form of Mo2O5. At - 540 mV (SCE), Mo4+ was the stable species, existing in the form of tetravalent oxyhydroxide MoO(OH)2 according to XPS analysis. No further reduction from Mo4+ to lower-valent states was observed when cathodically polarized to - 900 mV (SCE). Mo2O5 was found to be unstable in air, oxidizing readily to MoO3.
