Hexahydropyrimidone-(Z), reacted with dialkylmalonic acid dichlorides, does not yield malonylhexahydropyrimidones 111, but carboxylic acid derivatives V, the structure of which is confirmed by various reactions. Splitting off of water from V with dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide, again does not yield malonylhexahydropyrimidones 111, but -as may be shown by the NMR.-spectrum -the isomeric 3,4,7,S-tetrahydro- 2H-6H-pyrimido[Z21-b]l, 3-oxazine-2,4-diones X. Various reactions, as well as the spectral behaviour of these compounds in the infra-red and ultra-violet ranges, are discussed. These compounds are chemically similar to acid anhydrides and azlactones.
