Notes: Abstract In our former investigations, the phenomenon high temperature corrosion (HTC) was described exemplarily on selected materialcoating combinations for blades of stationary gas turbines, mainly in the temperature region of up to 750° C. To answer the question, in which manner higher gas inlet and/or higher material surface temperature would influence the HTC behaviour, a special analytical technique—the “integral layer profile analysis”—was introduced to ameliorate concentration profile methods. By examining IN 738 LC specimens with CoCrAlY plasma spray coating, stressed by hot gas at 900° C, the limits of this system are shown by explaining the corrosion mechanism; the method is also used for other systems, e.g. U 520 with NiCrAlY coating at 750° C.

Notes: High temperature corrosion - oxidative damage of metallic materials from hot gas and other fluid and solid components - shortens the life of gas turbines. By comparing the results of laboratory tests under constant conditions with the results of the operation of gas turbines the facts of failure should be clarified.Metallographie examinations, but especially SEM, Microprobe and AES help to clear the facts of failures in the microscopic zones. These tests will help when selecting materials and their protective coatings with the purpose of higher rentability of the plant.

Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis of (±)-“Isoalbene”In an attempt to synthesize the natural compound „albene“ it was shown that this material does not possess structure 1. Actually 1 is produced via the Diels-Alder adduct 10, followed by hydrogenation to 11 and Thorpe-Ziegler ring closure of the third carbocyclic ring by means of dinitrile 19. The resulting symmetrical ketone 3 is transformed into the thioenolether 21 with phenylmethanthiol. Desulfurization with Raney nickel yields 2.6-dimethyl-endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]dec-3-ene (1). which is not identical with natural „albene“.
