Photochemistry of Small Rings, 16 Photolysis of Unsaturated Tosylhydrazones. - Alkyl- and arylcyclopropenes and Products Resulting from them.Photolysis of tosylhydrazones of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (4a-f) (alkaline salts) yields alkyl- and arylcyclopropenes (5a-f), probably via n-π* -excitation. 5a, b, d, e can be isolated, whereas 5c and 5f are photolysed to 2,3-diphenyl-1-(1,2-diphenyl-2-cyclopropenyl)cyclopropane (8c) and 1,3-diphenylindene (7f), respectively. In the case of 4c,d (with R2 = H) pyrazoles 10 are formed by way of a dark reaction. The mechanisms which lead to the photoproducts are discussed.
Notes:
