    Notes: Summary C-banding and mithramycin staining were used to characterize the karyotypes of 10 specimens of the African reed frogHyperolius viridiflavus ommatostictus from Tanzania. The diploid chromosome number is 2n=24. Although no heteromorphic sex chromosomes were present in the mitotic karyotypes, in many diakineses of male meiosis one or two bivalents exhibited an end-to-end arrangement. In the laboratory 7 out of 24 females changed sex spontaneously. This indicates that an XY/XX system of sex determination operates inH. viridiflavus ommatostictus.

    Notes: A method is described for the gas-chromatographic determination of the diastereomers of vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) in the form of their dihydro dimethyl ethers. The reported method of derivatization and chromatographic analysis in conjunction with optical rotation measurements are useful approaches for characterization of vitamin K1 samples with respect to their origin.

    Description / Table of Contents: A rapid method for examining the dissolving rate of metals in corroding solutionsThe aqueous corrosion solution is applied to the metal surface to be investigated by means of a porous carrier, e. g. filter paper. After a certain reaction time, the carrier is removed and the quantity of metal dissolved is determined by means of a special polarographic method. Owing to the high sensitivity of the detection method and the very small volume of liquid, it is possible to determine the concentration of the dissolved metals after a very short time already.
    Notes: Die wäßrige Korrosionslösung wird mit einem porösen Träger - z. B. Filtrierpapier - auf die zu untersuchende Metallfläche gebracht. Nach einer gewissen Einwirkungszeit wird der Träger abgehoben und das gelöste Metall mit Hilfe einer speziellen polarographischen Methode bestimmt. Die hohe Empfindlichkeit der Detektormethode und das sehr kleine Flüssigkeitsvolumen gestatten nach sehr kurzer Zeit die Konzentration des gelösten Metalls zu bestimmen.

    Notes: With specially shaped samples it is possible to study the stress-strain relation σ(γ) in simple shear up to large shear deformation γ. Measurements of σ(γ) on synthetic polyisoprene, IR 305, differently crosslinked with dicumylperoxide, are reported and compared with those for uniaxial extension on the same materials. Using the simple deformation geometry including shearbands proposed in the meander model (1), both stress-strain relations can be converted into each other. These results favor the applied superstructural model and moreover show that the deformation behavior of rubbers is governed by one material law, σ(γ).

    Notes: 1Sulphonic acids and carboxylic acids which do not react with thionyl chloride under normal conditions give the corresponding acid chlorides with this reagent in excellent yields when dimethylformamide is present as a catalyst.2The reaction of thionylchloride with dimethylformamide yields the corresponding amide chloride which has not been isolated before in pure state. This amide chloride reacts with acids under formation of acid chlorides. The mechanism of these reactions is discussed.
