    Notes: The synthesis of novel amphiphilic star-graft (SG) copolymers containing hydrophilic poly(oxyethylene) (PEO) side chains attached to a hydrophobic backbone by multifunctional entity is reported. In a first step poly(phthalimidoacrylate-co-styrene) was converted into polymers containing different number of multifunctional branching cites distributed along the main chain by partial aminolysis of the phthalimidoacrylate units with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. In the second step, these reactive copolymers yielded SG copolymers with different number of star-shaped PEO side groups by reaction with isocyanato terminated methoxy-PEO. The copolymers were characterized by size-exclusion chromatography, IR-, and NMR-spectroscopy. Their thermal properties were examined by thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The studies indicate that the grafting degree and hydrogen bonding determine to a great extent the behavior of the SG copolymers in solid state and in solution. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     Notes: WF6 reacts with HOCH2CF3 to form F5W-OCH2CF3 and cis-WF4(OCH2CF3)2. CsF is added to F5WOCH2CF3, yielding the heptacoordinated anion [F6WOCH2CF3]-, which has a capped octahedral structure with the oxygen ligand in an equatorial position. The first step of the reaction of WF6 with HN(CH2CF3)2 results in F5WN(CH2CF3)2. Excess HN(CH2CF3)2 causes deprotonation, yielding the heptacoordinated [F5W(η2CF3-CHN-CH2CF3)]- anion. This can be described as a tungstaazacyclopropane derivative or a π complex between F5W- and CF3-CHN-CH2CF3. The only case in which MoF6 reacts similarly is the formation of F5Mo-OCH2CF3.

    Notes: The reaction of chlorinated polyethylene and amines, the chemical changes accompanying the heat treatment of the aminated product, and the changes of some practically important properties of the resulting product have been studied. It was found that during amination nitrogen is incorporated in the macromolecules; during the applied heat treatment this nitrogen is eliminated from the polymer and the product becomes practically insoluble. The anticorrosive properties of the resulting product are significantly better than those of chlorinated polyethylene, and this is a very important result from the practical point of view.

Synthesis and Investigation of Dinorbornyl Zinc CompoundsBis(1-norbornyl)-, bis(2-norbornyl)-, and bis(7-norbornyl)zinc were synthesized from zink chloride and the corresponding Grignard compounds or norbornyl lithium compounds, respectively. The properties of these compounds differ remarkably. A detailed characterization took place by the mass, IR and 13C-NMR spectra and by investigation of the thermal decomposition and complex formation reactions.For comparison the bis(7-norbornenyl)zinc was prepared and characterized.
    Notes: Bis(1-norbornyl)-, Bis(2-norbornyl)- und Bis(7-norbornyl)-zinkNorbornyl = Bicyclo-[2.2.1]-heptyl, (Nor). wurden aus Zinkchlorid und den entsprechenden Grignardverbindungen bzw. Norbornyllithiumverbindungen synthetisiert. Die drei Substanzen unterscheiden sich beträchtlich in ihren Eigenschaften. Eine nähere Charakterisierung erfolgte durch Aufnahme und Auswertung der Massen-, IR- und 13C-NMR Spektren sowie durch Untersuchung des thermischen Zerfalls und von Komplexbildungsreaktionen.Für Vergleichszwecke wurde das Bis(7-norbornenyl)-zinkNorbornenyl = Bicyclo-[2.2.1]-hepten(2)-yl. dargestellt und untersucht.

    Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Properties of Norbornyl Mercury CompoundsBis(1-norbornyl) and bis(2-norbornyl)mercury, 1- und 2-norbornylmercury chloride and 1-norbornylmercury i-butyl were synthesized and characterized by 13C-N.M.R. investigations and in case of bis(1-norbornyl) mercury also by the I.R. and mass spectrum. The 1J(199Hg—13C) coupling constants of the 1-norbornyl compounds demonstrate the trans-influence of the norbornyl anion.
    Notes: Bis(1-norbornyl)- und Bis(2-norbornyl)quecksilber, 1- und 2-Norbornylquecksilberchlorid und 1-Norbornylquecksilber-i-butyl wurden synthetisiert und 13C-NMR-spektroskopisch untersucht. Bis(1-norbornyl)quecksilber wurde außerdem IR- und massenspektroskopisch charakterisiert. Die 1J(199Hg—13C)-Kopplungskonstanten der 1-Norbornylverbindungen gestatten Einblicke in den trans-Einfluß des 1-Norbornylcarbanions.

Benzylation of the Trivalent Titanium, Vanadium, and Chromium AcetylacetonatesBzCr(acac)2, 2Bz(Vacac)2 · Mg(acac)2 and 3BzV(acac)2 · Al(acac)3 were obtained in definite form by reaction of Cr(acac)3 and V(acac)3 with Bz3Al, Bz2Mg, and BzMgCl. Ti(acac)3, reacts with Bz2Mg and BzLi forming deep green Bz3Ti, which could'nt be isolated free of impurities (Bz = C6H5CH2, acacH = acetylacetone).
    Notes: Bei Reaktionen von Cr (acac)3 und V(acac)3 mit Bz3Al, Bz2Mg und BzMgCl wurden als definierte Verbindungen BzCr(acac)2, 2BzV(acac)2 · Mg(acac)2 und 3BzV(acac)2, Al(acac)3 erhalten. Aus Ti(acac)3 und Bz2Mg bzw. BzLi entsteht tiefgrünes Bz3Ti, das jedoch nicht frei von Verunreinigungen erhalten werden konnte. (Bz = C6H5CH2, acacH = Acetylaceton).

Investigations on Norbornyl Compounds of Titanium, Zirconium, and HafniumIt is reported about 13C-NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopic measurements of (1-Nor)4M derivatives of Ti, Zr, and Hf and unsuccessful efforts for synthesis of 1-norbornyl titanium halides Furthermore, (2-Nor)4Ti and (2-Nor)4Zr were synthesized. These compounds are remarkably less stable than the corresponding 1-norbornyl derivatives and appear to be exo/endo isomer mixtures. At thermolyses of (2-Nor)4Ti stable (2-Nor)2Ti is formed. The stability of (7-Nor)4Ti is comparable with that of (2-Nor)4Ti.
    Notes: Es wird über 13C-NMR-, IR- und M-spektrometrische Untersuchungen an (1-Nor)4M-DerivatenNor = Norbornyl = Bicyclo[2.2.1]-heptyl. des Ti, Zr und Hf sowie erfolglose Bemühungen zur Synthese von 1-Norbornyltitanhalogeniden berichtet. Weiterhin wurden (2-Nor)4Ti und (2-Nor)4Zr synthetisiert. Diese Verbindungen sind wesentlich instabiler als die entsprechenden 1-Norbornylderivate und liegen offensichtlich als exo-endo-Isomerengemische vor. Bei der Thermolyse von (2-Nor)4Ti bildet sich stabiles (2-Nor)2Ti. Die Stabilität von (7-Nor)4Ti ist derjenigen des (2-Nor)4Ti vergleichbar.

    Description / Table of Contents: Struktur der Gläser des TeO2-MoO3-SystemsEs werden Strukturmodelle für TeO2-MoO3-Gläser vorgeschlagen. Auf Grund von Röntgen- und IR-Untersuchungen wird durch Vergleich mit den bekannten kristallinen Strukturen von TeO2, MoO3 und Te2MoO7 (T2M) gezeigt, daß die Gläser von TeO2 bis Te2MoO7 [TeO4]- und [MoO5]-Gruppen als Grundstruktureinheiten besitzen. Die letzteren sind unter Bildung von [Mo2O8]-Komplexen verbunden. Die Gläser im MoO3-reichen Gebiet werden von [TeO3]- und [MoO6]-Polyedern aufgebaut. Die Glasbildungstendenz wird in Beziehung zur Rolle des freien Elektronenpaars und zur Spaltung von sekundären und schwachen primären Bindungen in den Kristallen diskutiert.
    Notes: Structural models for glasses of the TeO2-MoO3 system are suggested. On the basis of X-ray and infrared spectral investigations, by comparing with known crystalline structures of TeO2, MoO3 and Te2MoO7(T2M), it is shown that the glasses from TeO2 to Te2MoO7 possess [TeO4] and [MoO5] groups as basic structural units. The latter are connected to form [Mo2O8] complexes. The glasses in the MoO3-rich compositional range are built up of [TeO3] and [MoO6] polyhedra. The glass-formation tendency is discussed in relation to the role of the free electron pair and the disruption of secondary and weak primary bonds in the crystals.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and Properties of Trinorbornyl Boron CompoundsTris(1-norbornyl), Tris(2-norbornyl), and Tris(7-norbornyl) boron were synthesized from boron trifluoride diethylether and 1-norbornyl lithium or 2- and 7-norbornyl magnesium halides respectively. The compounds were characterized by the IR-, 13C-, 11B-NMR, and mass spectra. Furthermore 1-norbornyl lithium was isolated in the crystalline state and investigated in detail.
    Notes: Tris(1-norbornyl)-, Tris(2-norbornyl)- und Tris(7-norbornyl)bor1 wurden aus Bortrifluorid-diethylether und 1-Norbornyllithium bzw. 2- und 7-Norbornylmagnesiumhalogeniden synthetisiert. Eine nähere Charakterisierung erfolgte durch IR-, 13C- und 11B-NMR- sowie Massenspektren. 1-Norbornyllithium wurde in kristalliner Form erhalten; die Verbindung liegt in Benzol tetramer vor. Das 13C-NMR-Spektrum wird angegeben.

The compound forms with bipyridyl a complex of the formula (3-NTC)2Zn · bipy and unexpectively another complex of the composition [(3-NTC)2Zn]2 · bipy.
    Notes: Bis(3-notricyclyl)zink1 wurde aus Zinkchlorid und 3-Nortricyclylmagnesiumchlorid synthetisiert. Eine nähere Charakterisierung erfolgte durch Aufnahme und Auswertung der Massen-, IR- und 13C-NMR-Spektren sowie durch Untersuchung des thermischen Zerfalls. Die Verbindung bildet mit 2,2′-Dipyridyl einen Komplex der Formel (3-NTC)2Zn · dipy und unerwartet auch einen solchen der Zusammensetzung [(3-NTC)2Zn]2 · dipy.
