    Notes: Abstract The phase equilibria and structures in the system glycerol, sodium dodecyl sulfate and decanol were determined using visual observation, optical microscopy, and low angle X-ray diffraction. The results showed the presence of an isotropic liquid alcohol solution of the surfactant and the glycerol, a lamellar liquid crystalline phase and a small region of an isotropic glycerol solution.

    Notes: Abstract The microemulsion liquid in the system ethylene glycol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, decanol, and toluene was investigated by determination of solubility regions and of light scattering intensity. The system without hydrocarbons showed a critical point which remained in the system during the addition of toluene to high content. No other indications of association structures was formed and the microemulsions should be considered as solutions with critical behavior.

    Notes: Abstract The phase regions in the system hexanol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and concentrated aqueous solutions of sorbitol were similar to the corresponding system with glycerol. In addition to the expected phase regions of a water/sugar micellar solution, a lamellar liquid crystalline phase, and the alcohol solution with solubilized sugar and water, a small region was found with an extremely stable emulsion, which could be separated by ultracentrifugation at 108,000 g. This emulsion consisted of micron sized droplets separated by layers of a lamellar liquid crystal.

    Notes: Abstract The main features of the system water, vitamin E, lecithin and Phosal 75 SA was determined using optical microscopy and low angle x-ray diffraction. The results showed the lecithin/water lamellar liquid crystal to be retained when the lecithin was gradually replaced by Phosal 75 SA. The vitamin E was solubilized in the lamellar liquid crystals to a maximum level in the range of 15–20% by weight. The vitamin E intermingled with the amphiphile in the liquid crystal causing only minor structural changes.

    Notes: Abstract The composition of W/O microemulsions during slow evaporation at room temperature and at 90°C was determined by chemical analysis. One series of microemulsions was stabilized by pentanol combined with sodium dodecyl sulfate, the other one was combined with hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide. The hydrocarbon was styrene and the evaporation in the microemulsion was compared to that of the corresponding styrene/pentanol solutions. The results showed significant influence on the evaporation by the microemulsion structure; especially for water contents close to the minimum for stability

    Notes: Abstract The phase conditions in a system of water, hexadecane, sodium dodecyl sulphate, and di-ethylene glycol dodecyl ether showed theW/O microemulsions to be obtained first after destabilization of a liquid crystalline phase by addition of the hexadecane. The original lamellar liquid crystalline phase was moved towards higher surfactant/cosurfactant ratios and a new phase with inverse amphiphile cylinders in a hexagonal packing appeared.
