Notes: O (m 2) time and uses O(m) space, where m is the number of edges of the polyhedron. As this is the lower bound of the symmetry detection problem for the considered output form, our algorithm is optimal. We show that a slight modification of our symmetry detection algorithm can be used to solve the related conguity problem of polyhedra.

Notes: Abstract A novel technique is presented for rapid partitioning of surfaces in range images into planar patches. The method extends and improves Pavlidis' algorithm (1976), proposed for segmenting images from electron microscopes. The new method is based on region growing where the segmentation primitives are scan line grouping features instead of individual pixels. We use a noise variance estimation to automatically set thresholds so that the algorithm can adapt to the noise conditions of different range images. The proposed algorithm has been tested on real range images acquired by two different range sensors. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is fast and robust.

Notes: Abstract We propose a simple and efficient general algorithm for determining both rotational and involutional symmetries of polyhedra. It requiresO(m 2) time and usesO(m) space, wherem is the number of edges of the polyhedron. As this is the lower bound of the symmetry detection problem for the considered output form, our algorithm is optimal. We show that a slight modification of our symmetry detection algorithm can be used to solve the related conguity problem of polyhedra.

Notes: Capillary electrophoretic enantioseparation of compounds containing vicinal diol groups have been investigated using different β-cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives and borate as a background electrolyte. Both native β-CD and several β-CD derivatives are examined. Chiral recognition is attributed to both enantioselective inclusion of the analyte into the chiral cavity of the CD and complexation with borate. The influence of concentration of the chiral selector, pH, and organic modifiers on the resolution was studied. Four diols were baseline separated. Chirality 9:153-156, 1997. © 1997 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Description / Table of Contents: Pyrrolinones, IV Pyrrolin-2-ones with Electron Attracting Substituents in the β-PositionsThe pyrrolinones 3-7, synthesized from maleic acid derivatives and enamines and also their reaction products 8-24 are described. By comparison with the classic-type dipyrromethenes 26, 30, and 31 the dipyrromethenes 27 as well as 25, 28, and 29 are shown to exist as lactams (neo-type dipyrromethenes). In basic solution 27 exhibits a deep blue color which is unusual for dipyrromethenes.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Reactions of Methylene-bridged Phosphorus(III)-Phosphorus(V) CompoundsThe synthesis of methylene-bridged diphosphorus compounds of the type Y2PCH2P(S)X2 (with Y = F, Cl, OPri, NMe2, Ph) is reported. Reactions of these compounds with bicycloheptadiene-metaltetracarbonyls to form complexes of the type (L—L′)M(CO)4 and (L—L′)2M(CO)4, respectively, as well as some oxidation reactions and the conversion of the phosphine F2PCH2P(S)F2 to the cyclotetraphosphine [PCH2P(S)F2]4 are described.

Umsetzungen der erhaltenen Verbindungen mit Bicycloheptadien-Metalltetracarbonylen zu Komplexen des Typs (L—L′)M(CO)4 bzw. (L—L′)2M(CO)4 (mit M = Cr, Mo, W), einige Oxidationsreaktionen und die Umwandlung des Phosphans F2PCH2P(S)F2 zum Cyclotetraphosphan [PCH2P(S)F2]4 werden beschrieben.

Description: A large number of chemical pollutants can be foundin the marine environment. So it is necessary to obtaininformations about the toxic effects of this contaminantmixtures in general and especially on singlecell level. We used an organic extract of a marine sedimentfrom the North Sea to investigate its cyto- andgenotoxicity with an in vitro system, the comet assayor single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). The cometassay can be applied for estimating genotoxic effectsof chemicals on single cell level. First results confirmthe sensitivity of this assay and its applicability in assessing genotoxic load in environmental samples. Apermant cell line, the EPC (Ephithelioma papulosumcyprini) was used for the experiments. It was possibleto demonstrate the suitability of this in vitro test systemfor assessing genotoxic and cytotoxic effects ofmarine sediment extracts on EPC cells.
