Determination of the pKa′ value for the carboxylic function of 3,5-dimethyl-4-[(2,2,5,5-tetramethylcyclopentylidene)amino]-benzoic acid (2) in aqueous alcohols leads to the Hammett substituent parameter σp = +0.07 (±0.07) for the imino group whose π-electron system is orthogonal to that of the mediating aromatic ring.
