    Description: Description of the design and testing of a recuperated, closed Brayton-cycle, electrical power conversion system designated the Brayton Cycle Demonstrator (BCD). The system uses electrical heaters as a heat source, argon as the cycle working fluid, and gas-lubricated foil-type bearings. Objectives of the test program include (1) evaluation of the overall system performance characteristics and influences on spacecraft integration, (2) familiarization of personnel with operational methods, and (3) determination of system flexibility by operating at a number of off-design conditions. Results obtained to date are discussed.

    Granulatic breccia clasts and feldspathic melt breccia clasts from North Ray crater breccia 67975 - Precursors and petrogenesis (1989)

    Description: A petrologic study of crystalline lithic clasts from feldspathic breccia 67975, collected on the rim of North Ray crater at the Apollo 16 site, is presented. A light gray group has been identified as granulitic breccias, and a dark gray group has been identified as feldspathic microporphyritic melt breccias. It is suggested that complete homogenization of the minerology of the granulitic breccias may have been prevented by their incorporation into the 67975 fragmental breccia, and that metamorphism of the clasts may have been interrupted by this breccia forming event.

    Feldspathic granulite 79215 - Limitations on T-fo2 conditions and time of metamorphism (1978)

    Description: Feldspathic granulite 79215, an annealed polymict breccia which has a bulk composition between anorthositic gabbro and gabbroic anorthosite, contains numerous oxide complexes in the matrix. An Ar-39-Ar-40 stepwise heating experiment gives a well-defined plateau corresponding to an age of 4.03 + or - 0.02 AE. The polmict character of this breccia and the variability of the complexes suggest that they formed as a consequence of reactions between spinel-rich clasts and matrix under the high-T low-P conditions of an ejecta blanket. The duration of annealing is estimated to have been less than 10 million yr; the absence of a KREEP component may indicate an inhomogeneous distribution of this component at the lunar surface at 4.0 AE.
