Description: The first geodetic survey across the northern Caribbean plate boundary zone with GPS was conducted in June 1986. Baseline vectors defined by the six-station regional GPS network ranged from 170 to 1260 km in length. Repeatability of independent daily baseline estimates was better than 8 mm plus 1.3 parts in 10 to the 8th of baseline length for horizontal components. The wet tropospheric path delay during the experiment was both high, sometimes exceeding 30 cm at zenith, and variable, sometimes exceeding 5 cm variation over several hours. Successful carrier phase cycle ambiguity resolution (bias fixing) could not be achieved prior to construction of a regional troposphere model. With optimum troposphere treatment and single-day orbital arcs, most biases on baselines were resolved up to about 550 km in length. With multiday orbital arcs most biases in the network were resolved regardless of baseline length. The results suggest that constraints on plate-boundary zone deformation in the Greater Antilles, and on the North America-Caribbean relative plate motion vector, can be obtained with a series of GPS experiments spanning less than 10 and 15 years, respectively.

Description: GPS data from experiments conducted in 1985 and 1989 in the southern Gulf of California, Mexico, allow a determination of relative motion between the Pacific and North American plates. The data indicate motion by Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific plate relative to North America at a rate of 47 + or - 7 mm/yr and azimuth of 57 + or - 6 deg west of north, equivalent within uncertainties to the NUVEL-1 global plate motion model.

Description: The flow through a 2D experimental diffuser with channel width 2.60 cm and divergence angle (2 theta) 9 or 20 deg is investigated experimentally for inlet Reynolds number 78,300 and velocity 43.9 m/s, with and without vertical rods to generate inlet turbulence in excess of the limits defined by Hoffmann (1981) and Hoffmann and Gonzales (1983). Measurements are obtained using a thermal wall-flow-direction probe and a single hot-wire velocity probe, and the results are presented graphically. Significant increases in the pressure-recovery coefficient of the diffuser (10 percent at 9 deg and 22 percent at 20 deg) are attributed to the action of turbulence to reduce distortion and delay separation, thus creating an altered flow condition with symmetrical velocity profiles.

Description: This article provides supplemental information for a Letter reporting the rate of (BBH) coalescences inferred from 16 days of coincident Advanced LIGO observations surrounding the transient (GW) signal GW150914. In that work wereported various rate estimates whose 90% confidence intervals fell in the range 2600 Gpc(exp -3) yr(exp -1). Here we givedetails on our method and computations, including information about our search pipelines, a derivation of ourlikelihood function for the analysis, a description of the astrophysical search trigger distribution expected frommerging BBHs, details on our computational methods, a description of the effects and our model for calibrationuncertainty, and an analytic method for estimating our detector sensitivity, which is calibrated to our measurements.
