    Notizen: Abstract Isomeric decays in116, 118, 120Sn and119, 120Sb have been studied by measurements of delayedγ-rays following reactions of 26–40 MeV7Li ions on Cd targets. A 6.3 μs isomer of $$(vh_{11/2} ^n )^{10 + } $$ character in120Sn is reported. The experimental variation inB(E2, 10+ → 8+) between $$vh_{11/2} ^n $$ states in116, 118, 120, 128, 130Sn is compared with the expected dependence on vh11/2 subshell occupation number. Isomerism in Sb nuclei is also discussed, and a known high-spin isomer in119Sb is assigned the same seniority-three configuration $$(\pi d_{5/2} vh_{11/2} ^n )^{25/2 + } $$ as a well-established 340 μs isomer in117Sb.

    Notizen: Abstract Conversion electrons,γ and X rays from102Rhm (6+,T 1/2=1057 d) have been studied. An electromagnetic branch (2.3±0.3) ·10−3 feeding the102Rh first excited state has been observed in the 6+ isomeric decay. The excitation energy of the 6+ isomer turns out to be 140.7 keV above the 2− ground state.

    Notizen: Abstract The mean life of the lowest 21/2(+ level of89Zr has been measured with a pulsed7Li beam and the85Rb(7Li, 3n)89Zr reaction. The mean life is τ=7.39 ± 0.23 ns and the reduced transition probability to the 17/2+ state isB(E2)=73±2e2fm4. The comparison with shell-model predictions requires a large value of the effective chargee p ≈ 2) to account for the experimental result. The mean life of the 13/2− state has also been measured and results to be τ=3.22±0.17ns.

    Notizen: By using biochemical and immunochemical approaches, we have isolated a rat spermatocyte surface protein of an apparent molecular weight, of 80 kd involved in spermatocyte-Sertoli cell recognition in culture. Preliminary characterization of such a molecule has demonstrated that (1) it is a nonintegral membrane component; (2) it possesses a small amount of N-linked oligosac-charides of the high mannose type; and (c) it is a stage-specific molecule, being present only in middle-late pachytene spermatocytes.

    Notizen: Membrane components involved in adhesion properties of cultured Sertoli cells have been studied by a combination of immunological and biochemical methods. An antiserum prepared against Sertoli cells induced reversible rounding and detachment of the cells from the culture dishes. The cell surface morphology during detachment was studied by scanning electron microscopy and indirect immunofluorescence. A Triton soluble fraction of crude membrane preparations inhibited the antibody-induced detachment. The antibodies recognized a restricted number of membrane glycoproteins [detectable as prominent bands on Sodium dodecylsulphate polyacrilamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), Mr 170, 140, 80, and 48K] both in the Triton soluble fraction of crude membrane preparation and on intact Sertoli cells. The data suggest that the molecules involved in adhesion properties of cultured Sertoli cells are integral membrane glycoproteins exposing antigenic determinants at the cell surface.

    Notizen: Phagocytic activity of rat Sertoli cells that were cultured in vitro has been evaluated as the ability to internalize polystyrene beads. Our data demonstrate that these ceils are active phagocytes and that such phagocytic activity is under negative control by follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The hormonal control is mediated by increased intracellular levels of cAMP. Moreover Sertoli cdl responds to tuftsin, an oligopeptide known to act only on macrophages and granulocytes, by increasing up to five times its phagocytic activity. Phagocytic uptake of polystyrene beads is associated with dramatic changes of the cellular shape. Such morphological modifications are significantly reduced under FSH stimulation. The physiological implications of the data are discussed.
