Notes:
13C and 15N NMR chemical shifts are reported for 2,3-diphenyltetrazolium-5-olate and -5-thiolate and some of their derivatives. The data for N-1 and C-5 provide a very satisfactory means of distinguishing between O and S as the exocyclic substituent. The reported chemical shifts are consistent with the presence of the cyclic structures shown, rather than of the corresponding non-cyclic structures.
