    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Arylamidine2 reagieren mit 5-Methoxymethylen-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-4,6-dion5 in guten Ausbeuten zu 2,4-Diaryl-1,3,5-triazinen. Verbindung5 kann als Derivat der Ameisensäure aufgefaßt werden, welches einen C1-Baustein überträgt. Andere Derivate der Ameisensäure ergeben bei Umsetzung mit Amidinen nur schlechte Ausbeuten an Triazinen. Die beschriebene Methode ist auf aromatische Amidine anwendbar.
    Notes: Summary Arylamidines2 react with 5-methoxymethylen-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-4,6-dione5 to give 2,4-diaryl-1,3,5-triazines in moderate to good yields.5 can be comprehended as a formic acid derivative which transfers a C1-building block. Other formic acid derivatives give only poor to moderate yields of triazines by treatment with amidines. The synthetic method is applicable to aromatic amidines.

    Notes: Summary Surface properties of activated carbons and carbon fibers subjected to oxidation processes are investigated by means of inverse gas chromatography (IGC). A general correlation between surface density of acidic groups and the empirical parameter επ related to electron acceptor interactions is established. Model adsorbents based on benzene derivatives with known numbers of functional groups are also studied by IGC to examine the effect of surface geometry in relationship to the επ results from the carbons.

    Notes: Abstract Females ofMyelois cribrella contain about 20 ng/gland of the primary sex pheromone components (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, (9Z,12E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate, and (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate in proportions of 4∶11∶5, respectively. These physiologically active components are accompanied by a number of related compounds such as (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol, hexadecyl acetate, (9Z,12E)-9,12-tetradecadien-1-ol, (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol, octadecyl acetate, octadecan-1-ol, and eicosyl and docosyl acetates. Octadecyl acetate, the most abundant component, represents about 42 ng/female moth; however, no physiological activity could be attributed to it. In field tests, a trap baited with a 1-mg mixture of (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, (9Z,12E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate, and (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate in a ratio of 1∶2∶1 caught more male moths than three live female moths.
