Infrared and Raman spectra of LiNH3OHSO4 and LiND3ODSO4 were recorded and analysed. Bands were assigned on the basis of SO4, NH3 and OH vibrations. The symmetric stretching mode in the deuterated compound is found to be at higher frequencies, indicating the existence of strong hydrogen bonds in LiNH3OHSO4. The SO4 ion is distorted in the crystal. A, B and C bands are observed in the OH stretching region, also showing the formation of strong hydrogen bonds.
