Crystal Structures of Hg2P2S6 and Hg2P2Se6Hg2P2S6 is triclinic, space group P1 with a = 6.652(3), b = 6.262(4), c = 7.126(6) Å, α = 96.21(6), β; = 105.69(6), γ = 119.15(4)° and Z = 1. Hg2P2Se6 is monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 6.545(3), b = 11.377(3), c = 13.610(5) Å, β = 98.47(5)° and Z = 4. The crystal structures were determined from 960 and 888 reflexions (2-circle single crystal diffractometer) by means of the heavy atom method and a direct method, respectively. Both structures are characterized by P2S6 and P2Se6 groups which are connected by the Hg atoms to form analogous layers situated parallel to the ab plane. For the Hg atoms, an approximately tetrahedral coordination by S and Se atoms, respectively, results. The close relationship of the new structures to the Fe2P2S6 type, the bond lengths and the crystal chemistry of the hexachalcogenohypodiphosphates of divalent metals are discussed.
Notes:
