Description:
More knowledge has to be acquired on the gas-liquid mass transfer characteristics with microbubble aeration before an efficient bioreactor is designed. In this work, the experiments about this subject have been conducted in a stirred reactor. Some useful conclusions have been obtained: the shaft power consumption is little affected by the superficial gas velocity ( v s ) and the power consumption of microbubble generator is rather high; the dispersion of microbubbles is more uniform comparing with sparger aeration; surface aeration leads to the decrease of the microbubble number and the diameter of the microbubble increases with the increase of v s ; when surface aeration happens, the k L a ~ v s curves turn quite abnormal different from that in the case of sparger aeration, and the calculations based on the correlation k L a 20° = 29.05 P 0.24 v s 0. 84 fit well with the measurements.
