Abstract Dominant plagioclase (An59) and minor spinel form possible cumulates in alkali basaltic flows from the Southern Highlands, N.S.W. The mode of occurrence of the spinel, and the chemical composition of both the spinel and the plagioclase suggest the spinel originated by exsolution from plagioclase formed at high pressure.
