Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die explizite Inversionsmethode mit Primzahl-Modul zur Erzeugung gleichverteilter Pseudozufallszahlen besitzt einige vielversprechende Eigenschaften.
Notes: Abstract The explicit inversive congruential method with prime modulus for generating uniform pseudorandom numbers has several very promising properties. However, an implementation in multiprecision of these pseudorandom number generators is usually necessary. The present paper introduces a compound version of the explicit inversive congruential method, which overcomes this disadvantage. It is shown that the generated sequences have very attractive statistical independence properties.

Notes: Abstract A theoretical investigation of the resonantly enhanced, Raman-induced Kerr effect (resonance-RIKE) is given, taking into account the resonance absorption of the laser wave and the population of excited electronic states. Line shape, maximum amplification and optimum conditions for the resonance-RIKE from the ground state as well as for the resonance-RIKE from an initial excited electronic state are discussed in detail. The possibility is studied of applying this method to the investigation of the vibrational structure of excited electronic states in molecules.

Notes: Abstract It is proposed to shape pulses by a combination of a saturable single-photon absorber and a two-step absorber in which an absorption from higher electronic levels populated by two-photon excitation is used. Pulse formation and shortening by means of this combination is calculated on the basis of balance equations. Thereby pulses with steeper front and back sides and of changeable duration are obtained, whereas the application of a saturable single-photon absorber alone gives only a significant suppression of the leading edge of the pulse. During a single passage through such a combination of absorbers a pulse shortening up to a factor of five may be obtained and the maximum of the pulse is only slightly depleted (to about 77%).

Notes: Abstract In the present paper the two-photon fluorescence (TPF) quenching produced by ruby lasers in dye is calculated on the basis of an electronic energy level system adapted for the special conditions of Rhodamine 6G. The model used here takes into consideration the action of competing one-photon processes. It will be shown that the reversed profile of TPF quenching in the overlap region is produced by the superposition of pulses with a time-dependent fluctuating phase as well as with a determinate quadratically time-dependent phase.

Notes: Abstract The evolution of ultra-short pulses from noise in a passively mode-locked solid-state laser is treated. The statistical properties of the laser field, such as correlation functions, the mean pulse shape and its fluctuations, are investigated. The maximum intensity and the width of the pulse train are estimated taking account of the amplification saturation. As an example of the application of the results to non-linear optics, TPF traces are calculated.

Notes: This paper discusses the systematic use of group technology (GT) to support important activities of distributed manufacturing including design indexing and retrieval, variant design, variant process planning, and design critiquing. We introduce an Object-Oriented Group Technology (OOGT) scheme, which captures design data critical to the product's manufacture. Our approach uses a STEP-based product information model to generate the OOGT data automatically. The latter are then used to conduct an efficient search for similar products manufactured by selected companies and to retrieve and use information about the manufacturing processes and performance of these similar products.

Notes: Abstract The intensity of coherent anti-Stokes resonance Raman scattering (CARRS) is calculated taking into account the resonant absorption of laser and anti-Stokes waves and changes in the molecule population. The resonant absorption causes an alteration of the phase of the laser wave leading to a decrease and periodic behaviour of the anti-Stokes intensity. This phase change can be compensated by the choice of a definite wave vector mismatchΔK, which determines the optimum condition for the CARRS. The optimum angle between the Stokes and the laser propagation direction and the optimum cell length are calculated. The line shape of the CARRS is discussed and used for the explanation of the observed dependence of the CARRS spectra on the laser intensity and the frequency and on the molecule number density. In the case of a O-O excitation the vibrational frequencies of the ground and the excited level are generated simultaneously in the CARRS spectra.

Notes: Abstract The α- and β-phases of NiMoO4 have been investigated with different techniques (X-ray diffraction, electrical conductivity, IR spectroscopy) in order to tentatively rationalise the different catalytic activities observed in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propene. XRD analyses have shown that at 595 ° C, the β-phase is already present but a temperature of ∼ 700 ° C is required to obtain a full conversion into a pure β-phase. Electrical conductivity showed the presence of anionic vacancies. It is proposed that propene is formed by the reaction of propane with surface O2- anions. The β-phase is almost twice more selective in propene formation than the α-phase for comparable conversion at identical temperatures. This could derive from different oxygen environments on the active catalytic site.

Notes: Abstract The circulation of a synchronously mode locked dye laser pulse in a linear cavity configuration containing a dye cell as an active medium and a bandwidth-limiting element is treated. The condition that the pulse shape reproduces after each cavity round-trip provides a nonlinear integro-differential equation for the steady-state pulse shape. For the solution of this equation an approximate method, not limited to small pulse energies, is given and the pulse duration, intensity, energy, asymmetry of the pulse shape, stable regions and other interesting parameters are discussed.

Notes: Abstract The circulation of an ultrashort light pulse in a continuously pumped modelocked dye laser with a linear cavity configuration containing the active dye, the saturable absorber and a bandwidth-limiting elements is treated. The steady-state condition that the pulse shape reproduces after each cavity round-trip leads to a nonlinear integro-differential equation for this pulse shape. An approximate method for the solution of this equation not limited to the case of low laser gain and small pulse energies is given. The stable single pulse region and characteristic pulse parameters, as energy, duration, intensity and asymmetry, are considered in dependence on the laser parameters.
