Notes: Abstract The pulses from a colliding-pulse mode-locked dye laser (100 fs, 20 pJ) are amplified to 0.2 mJ and self phase modulated in an excimer laser pumped dye amplifier. Suitable chirp compensation leads to nearly bandwidth-limited pulses of about 50 fs duration.

Notes: Abstract In continuous were passively mode-locked dye lasers a steady state distribution of two isomers of the saturable absorber dye can be established. We report the first intracavity transmission measurement and estimation of the amount of the photoisomer of DODCI in the femtosecond CPM ring laser. Comparison with a simple model based on rate equations allows to estimate the quantum yield of a photo-back reaction. The obtained dependence of the photoisomer concentration on the laser wavelength and pulse energy can be used in theories describing the generation process for adequate estimation of its part in the modelocking regime.

Notes: Abstract The effect of collision processes especially of velocity-changing collisions on the shape and contrast of the absorption dips is examined considering the dynamical Stark effect. The velocity-changing collisions cause a homogeneous saturation of the Doppler-broadened absorption profile and a decrease of the contrast of the absorption dip, which is comparable with the decrease of the contrast due to the dynamical Stark effect for saturation intensities of the order σI≃1. The influence of the dynamical Stark effect decreases with increasing pressure whereas the influence of the homogeneous saturation increases.

Notes: Abstract Among the different methods of nonlinear spectrosccpy the method of analysing the fluorescence light is useful in investigating weak absorbing molecular transitions. In this paper the fluorescence of a molecular gas in the resonator of a high-power single mode laser is investigated. By tuning the standing wave field frequency to centre of the absorption line one observes a narrow local minimum for the fluorescence. This minimum is determined by the homogeneously broadened line of the molecular transition and gives information of the different molecular relaxation processes. The influence of vibrational-rotational relaxations, velocity changing collisions and spatial inhomogeneous distribution of the population caused by the standing wave field on the width and contrast of the minimum is theoretically investigated. It will be shown, that vibrational-rotational and velocity changing collisions increase the intensity of the fluorescence. The spatial inhomogeneous distribution of population caused by the excitation decreases the contrast.
