Abstract A model of the peroxidase-oxidase reaction including photosensitive steps has been proposed. The predictions of the model have been compared with the experimental results for a closed system, and the good agreement between them has been established. A calculation of the effects of light on an open system under an oscillatory regimen has been carried out. Light of constant intensity alters the region for the occurrence of oscillations, and oscillations, whose period varies in inverse proportion to the intensity of the light acting on the system, may appear. Stimulated regimens with sinusoidally modulated light as the external perturbing force have also been investigated for this reaction. Depending on the initial conditions, the frequency, and the amplitude of the external perturbing force, a resonance response, complex oscillations, and chaos are observed in the system.
