Notes: Summary A new type of polymeric LB film named “Reversed Duckweed” type LB film was fabricated by use of a new kind of amphiphilic polymer which was composed of a flexible hydrophilic epichlorohydrinethylene diamine crosslinking microgels and several hydrophobic stearic chains. It had highly ordered structure, including a well ordered layer structure and highly oriented hydrophobic alkyl chains in each layer, which was confirmed by low angle X-ray diffraction and polarized FTIR-ATR experiment.

Notes: Summary A Reversed Duckweed polymeric LB film was fabricated by a new kind of amphiphilic polymer which was composed of hexanediamine- epichlorohydrin hydrophilic network and hydrophobic chains containing p-nitroazobenzene groups. Reversible optical birefringence and dichroism have been demonstrated in this polymeric LB film, and this reversible birefringence and dichroism can be cycled many times without appearance of any fatigue and show very good stability.

Notes: Summary The structure of a self-organized polymer film prepared by slow evaporation of organic solvents is studied by atomic force microscopy, and compared with that of polymer film prepared by natural evaporation of organic solvents. AFM studies clearly indicates that there exists a self-organizing process of alkyl chains resulting in the partial interdigitated layer structure under the condition of slow evaporation of organic solvents.

Notes: Abstract The characteristics and environment of advanced manufacturing enterprises are analysed. A process model is briefly proposed to formulate the structured, semistructured, and unstructured decision problems. A framework for a decision support system is proposed that is capable of coordinating with the hybrid models and targeted to build an open system which can be self-organized to respond to a changing and unpredictable environment. Belief network and object-oriented technology are employed to help the system reason and reconfigure itself.

Notes: Abstract On July 21, 1994, 13 h - 15 h UT, decametric bursts had been recorded at frequencies from 24.0 MHz to 28.5 MHz in Xin Xiang station (longitude =-113.8°, latitude =35.3°), Henan province, China. Three maps of the three hour data are presented. Some of the bursts appears to be relative to the impact of the fragment S(No. 5) of the comet SL-9.

Notes: Abstract The problem of crack deflection in bimaterial systems is considered in this paper. The material combinations may be of piezoelectric-piezoelectric, or one is piezoelectric and the other is not. Based on the Stroh formulation for anisotropic material, Green's functions for various bimaterial combinations are presented within the framework of two-dimensional electroelasticity, allowing the crack problem to be expressed in terms of coupled singular integral equations. A crack impinging on an interface joining two dissimilar materials may arrest or may advance be either penetrating the interface or deflecting into the interface. The competition between deflection and penetration is investigated using the maximum energy release rate criterion. Numerical results are presented to study the role of remote electroelastic loads on the path selection of crack extension. Key words:  Crack, piezoelectric material, interface, Green's function, singular integral equation.

Notes: Abstract Genetic variation of 31 blood protein loci in236 cattle from eight South China populations (includingmithan, Bos frontalis) and a Holstein population wasinvestigated by means of horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Thirteen loci (ALB, CAR, Hb-b,Np, PGM, Amy-I, PEP-B, AKP, 6PGD, Cp, Pa, EsD, and TF)were found to be polymorphic. The comparison of averageheterozygosities (H) shows that all the native cattle embrace a rich genetic diversity. Ourresults on protein polymorphism suggest that cattle inChina originated mainly from Bos indicus and Bos taurus;Xuwen, Hainan, Wenshan, and Dehong cattle and the Dehong zebu are close to zebu-type cattle, and Diqing and Zhaotong cattle are close to the taurine. The mithan was very different from other native cattle, and we suggest that its origin was complicated and may be influenced by other cattlespecies.

Notes: Abstract. A new kind of amphiphilic polyether dendrimer bearing eight alkyl chains at the periphery were synthesized step by step using the convergent method. Their structures were confirmed by FT-IR spectra, 1H NMR spectra and mass spectra etc. The π-A isotherms, hysteresis and molecular area-time curves at air water interface were reported. These results showed that they could form stable monolayers at water surface.

Notes: Summary A novel approach to branched polyacrylamide was described. The branched structure resulted from the amidyl radicals which were formed by the reaction of amide groups with Cu(III) of potassium diperiodatocuprate, K5[Cu(HIO6)2], in alkaline medium and capable of initiating the vinyl polymerization of acrylamide monomer. The obtained polymer was characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR and intrinsic viscosity measurements.

Notes: Abstract Strong decametric narrow-band radio bursts, produced by impacts of fragments D, E, G, K, N, S and W of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 1993e (SL-9) on the Jupiter, have been detected during our observations from July 17 to 22, 1994 at the Xin-Xiang temporary Jovian Decametric Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory. Plots of relative signal intensity of these bursts at 10 frequencies between 24.0 and 28.5MHz are presented. The major features of events are sumarized and discussed.
