    Notizen: Abstract A new type of PbO2-coated metal anode, useful for electrochemical processing requiring the use of high-overpotential anodes, was prepared by applying to a titanium substrate an undercoating of Ti-Ta oxides, then covering the undercoating with an intermediate coating of stress-free α-PbO2 deposit, and finally covering the intermediate coating with a Ta2O5 particle-admixed β-PbO2 deposit. The anode thus produced was found to be superior to the anodized Pb or platinized Ti anode in respect of oxygen overvoltage, and corrosion resistance, even in solutions containing organic solvents. The possibility for use in chromium plating is also indicated.

    Notizen: Abstract The design and construction of a compact high-voltage pulse generator for providing input electron beam power for the LAP/INPE 32 GHz gyrotron and for treatment of metal and polymer materials by plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) are described. The generator was built on a circuit category of Pulse Forming Network (PFN), consisting of nine LC sections with L = 270 μH and C = 2.5 nF. The instrument was designed to produce a flat 30 kV, several Amps pulse in 15 μs pulse length with pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 8 to 100 Hz. By means of a resonant charging inductance it is possible to gain an output voltage with a factor of 1.8 higher than the voltage supplied by the pulse generator. The generator is fed with sine-wave, constant current source, and a 60 kV, 15 mA switching power supply.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Übersicht Die Lösung des zweiten gemischten Randwertproblems der ebenen Elastizität mit zwei kraftbeanspruchten und zwei gestützten Rändern wird dargestellt. Für die Analyse wird eine rationale Abbildung verwendet, die als Summe partieller Lösungen aus komplexen Spannungsfunktionen aufgebaut ist. Für gleichmäßige Zug- und Schubbeanspruchungen kann die Lösung in geschlossener Form dargestellt werden und ist verwendbar in Rißaufgaben der linear elastischen Bruchmechanik. Als Illustration der allgemeinen Lösung dient ein verzweigter Bereich der gegenseitigen Einwirkung einer quadratischen Öffnung mit Seitenkerbe und eines Risses. Die Spannungsverteilungen und Spannungsintensitäten werden dabei berechnet.
    Notizen: Summary A solution is obtained for the second mixed boundary value problem with two boundaries loaded with external forces, and the other two boundaries simply supported. A rational mapping function formed as a sum of fractional expressions and complex stress functions is used for the analysis. A closed form solution can be obtained under uniform tensile and shearing loadings. These solutions are applicable to crack problems in linear elastic fracture mechanics. In order to illustrate the general solution, a double connected region is considered, in which interaction between a square hole with a crack extension and another crack is investigated. Stress distributions and stress intensity factors are obtained.

    Notizen: Abstract We have carried out a simultaneous observation of radar and optical meteors with the MU radar (Middle and Upper Atmosphere Radar), Shigaraki and TV camera systems. We usually obtained about 20 meteors per an hour with 85 mm lens, but very small part of them are simultaneously observed by the MU radar (〈 5%), suggesting the significance of rectangular scatterring. We have analyzed about 20 simultaneous meteors with magnitudes from 0 to +5.5, most of which are overdense meteors. For Geminid meteors, a linear relation between the logarithm of the echo duration and the absolute magnitude of the TV meteor, was deduced.

    Notizen: Abstract We have carried out double-station TV meteor observations between 1990 and 1994. The orbits of 326 meteors have been determined from doubly observed meteors, and radiant distributions are studied. The mean magnitude of the observed meteors was as faint as +4.7, since I.I. (Image Intensifier) and Video cameras were used. Radiants were widely distributed over the celestial sphere. The velocity distribution showed some similarity with the distribution predicted by the theoretical radiant distribution from comets rather than that from asteroids. In all 13 showers including both major and minor meteor showers were detected from radiant distributions of the observed meteors; from the orbital elements and meteor velocities as well as from the radiant directions.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Übersicht Vorgestellt wird ein numerisches Modell zur Ermittlung der Walzguttemperatur in einer Warmbandstraße für Aluminium, das auf einfachen theoretischen Grundannahmen beruht. Mit dem Modell wird die Möglichkeit der Produktivitätssteigerung durch eine veränderte Gestaltung der Fertigstraße unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Steuerung der Walzguttemperatur untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die Erhöhung der Anzahl der Fertiggerüste einen positiven Einfluß auf die Produktivität hat.
    Notizen: Summary In order to predict the material temperature throughout the hot rolling process of aluminium, a numerical model is proposed in a theoretical as well as simple way. Using the model, the possibility of the improvement in productivity by reforming the finishing mill arrangement is examined under aspect of the control of material temperature. The results so obtained show the positive effect of increasing the number of finishing mills on the productivity.

Concentrations of polychlorinated-dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), -dibenzofurans (PCDFs), -biphenyls (PCBs), and organochlorine pesticides were measured in tissues of map turtles collected from two locations in the Pascagoula River drainage of Mississippi, USA. PCBs were most predominant among the organochlorines with a concentration of up to 99 ng/g, wet weight (580 ng/g, lipid weight) in livers. The greatest concentration of PCDDs/DFs of 1.1 pg/g, wet weight (15.76 pg/g, lipid weight) was found in the liver of a male turtle. The measured concentrations of organochlorines were less than those reported for turtles from the Great Lakes Basin and upper St. Lawrence River. PCBs contributed 90–99% of the total estimated 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin equivalents (TEQs). Particularly, PCB congeners 105, 118, and 156 accounted for 68–80% of the estimated toxic potency of PCBs in turtles.

    Notizen: Abstract  When the isocitrate lyase gene, containing 5′-upstream and 3′-flanking regions, of an n-alkane-assimilating yeast Candida tropicalis was introduced into Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the enzyme was functionally overexpressed in the cells grown on acetate. The amount of the recombinant isocitrate lyase expressed in S. cerevisiae was as much as 30% of the total soluble proteins in the cells, being comparable to that with GAL7 functional under the control of galactose. The expression was also observed when the cells were grown on glycerol, lactate, ethanol or oleate. These facts indicate that the isocitrate lyase gene upstream region (UPR-ICL) contains a strong promoter functional in S. cerevisiae. UPR-ICL is active as a promoter on cheap carbon sources such as acetate and non-conventional carbon sources such as oleate, whereas many conventional strong promoters demand relatively expensive sugars or sugar derivatives. Therefore, it is promising to construct an economical recombinant protein production system by using UPR-ICL.
