Notizen: Abstract This paper describes the use of ammonia-containing baths for Zn–Ni alloy electrodeposition. Buffering properties of the ammonia/ammonium couple limit the local change in pH in the vicinity of the electrode surface caused by simultaneous hydrogen evolution. In addition, it is shown that the divalent zinc and nickel species exist in the form of Zn(NH3) 4 2+ and Ni(NH3) 6 2+ complexes over a large pH range. The electrochemistry of the deposition at pH 10 was investigated by galvanostatic experiments and cyclic voltammetry, and compared with deposition from ammonium chloride baths at pH 5. The Ni content in the alloys were found to be 40–60% higher from the ammonia-containing bath than from the acidic baths. Reduction of divalent ions and hydrogen evolution were shown to occur at potentials 250 mV more cathodic than with baths at pH 5; the deposition mechanism may be affected by complexation of the metal cations by ammonia.

Notizen: Abstract The paper describes the results of electrochemical investigations of Ni–Co deposition from a sulfamate bath in the presence of boric acid and two additives. The individual deposition of nickel was shown to be partly inhibited by the adsorption of sulfamate ions at low polarization; such inhibition was not observed for cobalt. The introduction of saccharin at 100 ppm, with a wetting agent seems to hinder sulfamate adsorption and Ni deposition departs at less cathodic potentials. The presence of cobalt has no effect on nickel deposition, whereas cobalt deposition is hindered by the presence of nickel in the bath. Galvanostatic deposition was carried out at the surface of a RDE and with a rotating cylinder Hull cell. At low current densities deposits with a Co content of approx. 40% were produced, but this content was shown to decrease with the applied current density. Examination of experimental data showed that cobalt deposition is diffusion-controlled and that Co content decreases with the applied current density relative to the limiting current density.

Notizen: Abstract The paper deals with the effects of an incident laser beam on electrodeposition of Ni–P alloys from dilute acetate solutions. The kinetics of separate reductions of Ni2+ and H2PO−2 species were first investigated by linear sweep voltammetry, varying the hypophosphite concentration and the solution temperature: comparison of the kinetically limited current densities of the two reductions suggested that increasing temperature might reduce the significance of P codeposition. This tendency was confirmed by deposition runs carried out at controlled current. Deposition performance was discussed in terms of faradaic yield and deposit properties, namely P content together with the aspect and the structure of the alloys. Use of a continuous or pulsed laser beam was shown to reduce the P content in the deposit at high current densities; in some cases, amorphous structures were replaced by more crystalline forms with assistance of a laser beam.

Notizen: Abstract Twelve patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and having swollen knees were treated with 1.1 g/day of sodium naproxen administered in one dose, daily for 5 days. The 72-h wash-out period was verified by the absence of any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug using a HPLC screening. Blood and synovial fluid samples were drawn just before treatment and 24 h after the last dose. Eicosanoids (PGE2, 6-keto-PGF1α, TXB2, LTB4, LTC4) in synovial fluid were determined by immunoenzy-matic assays. In plasma and synovial fluid, hyaluronic acid was assayed by radiometric assay and sodium naproxen by HPLC. Free drug was determined by equilibrium dialysis. Statistical analysis used nonparametric tests. Pain relief (evaluated on a visual scale), morning stiffness, and scores on the Lee and Ritchie indices all decreased significantly, as did PGE2 and LTB4 concentrations. The decrease in 6-keto-PGF1α and TXB2 was not significant. No significant change was found for LTC4 and hyaluronic acid. Total concentrations of sodium naproxen were equivalent in plasma (16.1 μg·ml−1) and synovial fluid (18.9 μg·ml−1). Free fractions were significantly higher in synovial fluid (0.14%) than in plasma (0.11 %), as shown by binding of the drug to human serum albumin, at various protein concentrations. Interestingly, the clinical efficacy, as shown by decreases in morning stiffness and in the Lee index score, correlated with the free concentration of naproxen in synovial fluid.

Notizen: Abstract Objective: Since dimethicone may be employed to improve gastrointestinal tolerability of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), we studied its influence on the pharmacokinetics of ketoprofen in subjects receiving a single oral dose of racemic ketoprofen. Patients and methods: In a cross-over experimental design, 12 healthy fasting volunteers were given a single oral dose (100 mg) of racemic ketoprofen, administered with or without dimethicone. The kinetic parameters measured were area under the concentration (AUC), maximum peak plasma concentration (Cmax), time to reach peak concentration (tmax), elimination half-life (t1/2), mean residence time (MRT) and urinary excretion for R and S enantiomers. Results: Dimethicone reduced the peak concentration of both R and S ketoprofen by about 10% (P 〈 0.05) and also induced a slight but non-significant increase in the mean time to achieve peak concentration. However, this treatment had no significant effect on the bioavailability and the elimination of R and S enantiomers, as shown by AUC, t1/2 and MRT values. The absorption patterns were equivalent for both ketoprofen isomers, since plasma pharmacokinetic parameters were similar. Nevertheless, the urinary recovery was significantly lower for R ketoprofen than for its antipode. The administration of dimethicone did not alter this stereoselectivity. Conclusion: The administration of dimethicone to alleviate the epigastralgic effects related to NSAIDs does not affect the efficacy of the treatment. Dimethicone did not significantly alter the bioavailability of ketoprofen, chosen as an example of an NSAID, especially that of the pharmacologically active S enantiomer.
