Notizen: Summary Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) was applied to the analysis of the soluble proteins from grape musts, with protein separation based on hydrophobicity. The initial percentage and rate of increase of organic modifier were optimized using the Modified Simplex method. Both the qualitative and quantitative data in the chromatograms yielded information on the variety origin of grape musts.

Notizen: Summary The nitrogen fraction from cheese, soluble in phosphotungstic acid has been analyzed by gel permeation and high performance liquid chromatography. Elution profiles of this fraction on Sephadex G-10 show that there are no peptides of molecular weight higher than 700 daltons. Six fractions have been obtained. The first one has the peptides and some amino acids. Fractions II to VI contains mostly free amino acids. Fraction I has been separated into many peaks by HPLC. Six or seven of these peaks are presumed to correspond to peptides.

Notizen: Summary The interaction between some polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons of environmental concern, and sodium dodecylsulphate and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide in the presence of methanol, 2-propanol and n-butanol has been evaluated by high-performance liquid chromatography using micellar mobile phases. Solute-micelle association constants have been determined for the compounds investigated. The results show that the addition of the alcohol to the mobile phase decreases the association constant values, methanol 〈2-propanol 〈n-butanol, relative to those in the absence of any additive.

Notizen: Summary Sodium dodecyl sulphate, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide and polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether were investigated as mobile phases in the micellar liquid chromatography of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons of environmental concern. A wide range of surfactant concentrations were used and the retention parameters and distribution coefficients calculated. The trends in the retention data for the PAHs are discussed and several conclusions are presented concerning the partition coefficients when these surfactants are present in the mobile phase. Comparisons are made between the structural features of the compounds and their capacity factors, and the octanol/water partition coefficients are correlated with hydrophobicity for the PAHs studied.

Notizen: Abstract We study the convergence of rational interpolants with prescribed poles on the unit circle to the Herglotz-Riesz transform of a complex measure supported on [−π, π]. As a consequence, quadrature formulas arise which integrate exactly certain rational functions. Estimates of the rate of convergence of these quadrature formulas are also included.

Notizen: Abstract In this paper we present a technique to study the existence of rational solutions for systems of differential equations — for an ordinary differential equation, in particular. The method is relatively straightforward; it is based on a rationality characterisation that involves matrix Padé approximants. It is important to note that, when the solution is rational, we use formal power series “without taking into account” their circle of convergence; at the end of this paper we justify this. We expound the theory for systems of linear first-order ordinary differential equations in the general case. However, the main ideas are applied in numerical resolution of partial differential equations.

Notizen: Abstract In many applications it is of major interest to decide whether a given formal power series with matrix-valued coefficients of arbitrary dimensions results from a matrix-valued rational function. As the main result of this paper we provide an answer to this question in terms of Matrix Padé Approximants of the given power series. Furthermore, given a matrix rational function, the “smallest” degrees of the matrix polynomials which represent it are not necessarily unique. Therefore we study a certain minimality-type, that is, minimum degrees. We aim to obtain all the minimum degrees for the polynomials which represent the function as equivalents. In addition, given that the rational representation of the function for the same pair of degrees need not be unique, we have obtained conditions to study the uniqueness of said representation. All the results obtained are presented graphically in tables setting out the above information. They lead to a number of properties concerning special structures, staired blocks, in the Padé Table.

Quelle: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000
    Thema: Chemie und Pharmazie
Notizen: Summary A new method has been developed for the HPLC determination of the activity of lactase from the microorganisms in yoghurt. The method is based upon the ability of β-galactosidase to hydrolyze lactose bonds in glucose and galactose. To determine such activity in yoghurt, 1 mL of yoghurt was diluted 1∶10 with 0.1 M phosphate buffer (pH 7) containing 2 % (w/v) lactose and 5 mM dithioerythritol as reducing agent; the mixture was the incubated and injected into the HPLC. Lactase activity remained high as long as the number of viable microorganisms did not fall below the minimum CFU·mL−1 (107). This method is more repeatable than conventional colorimetric determination, and may also be automated for routine analysis.

    Thema: Chemie und Pharmazie
Notizen: Summary After a comparative study of conventional reversed phase and micellar liquid chromatography a method is described for the determination of the fungicide thiram in river water based on the use of micelles of CTAB. The method involves the extraction/concentration of thiram with a C18 cartridge followed by separation on a C18 reversed-phase column with a mobile phase of 20% (v/v) acetonitrile/0.01 M CTAB in phosphate buffer (pH-6.3), and detection at 254 nm. The method allows the determination of thiram in the presence of other water-soluble dithiocarbamate fungicides (nabam, ziram and ferbam) with a limit of detection of 36 pg mL−1 for a typical 20-fold preconcentration.

Notizen: Summary In the hydrolysis of soluble starch by mixtures of α-amylase and glucoamylase, the ratios maltose/glucose and maltoriose/glucose linearly depend, over a wide range, on the relation between both enzymes and are independent on the activity level of the enzymatic preparation. HPLC determination of hydrolysis products (glucose, maltose and maltotriose) of soluble starch by mixtures of these enzymes, after incubation under controlled conditions, is a rapid method for the evaluation of the relative levels of each enzyme in the mixtures. The method, first developed using pure commercial amylases, is applied, with consistent results, to cell free media ofAspergillus niger cultures on a glycogen-rich effluent.
