During the dissolution of In in acids (HCl) In(III) ions are formed. Coulometric measurements with In amalgam anodes (in HCl, HClO4 and H2SO4) show only the presence of In3+. The formation of In(I) ions in aqueous solutions is, therefore, denied.Simultaneously with the anodic dissolution a partial disintegration of the anode into very fine particles occurs (diameter of the smallest ones about 6-10-5 mm). This explains the deviation from Faradays law, if electrolysis with In anodes is performed.Homogenous InCd alloys also disintegrate during anodic dissolution. At a content of 6 to 12% Cd by weight, the particles consist of the cubic In/Cd phase, at higher Cd contents mainly of Cd.

Bei der Auflösung von In in Salzsäure geht das Metall dreiwertig in Lösung. Coulometrische Messungen Mit In-Amalgan als Anode (in HCl, HClO4 und H2SO4) zeigten ebenfalls nur In3+-Ionen an. Die Annahme einer vorübergehenden Bildung von In+-Ionen in wäßrigen Lösungen muß deshalb abgelehnt werden.Gleichzeitig mit der anodischen Auflösung erfolgt ein teilweiser Zerfall der Anode in sehr feine metallische In-Teilchen (Durchmesser 6 · 10-5mm). Das erklärt die Abweichung vom Faradayschen Gesetz bei der anodischen Auflösung von In-Metall.Homogene In/Cd-Legierungsanoden desintegrieren bei anodischer Auflösung ebenfalls. Enthält die Legierung zwischen 6 und 12 Gew.-% Cd, so enthalten die Teilchen im wesentlichen die kubische InCd-Phase, bei höheren Cd-Gehalten hauptsächlich Cd.
